DOT stopped us the other day told us we need to upgrade turnsignals and add marker lights on the corners also add a yellow triangle on the end of the boom also got us for wipers that are too slow. Im thinkin the guy had a bad night at home:sad:

Searched around for 24 volt lights to swap out having trouble finding taillights and front turnsignals any help any ideas would be appreciated. Scott

Did he give you a ticket? How is your wrecker registered?
Not saying that the newer LED taillights aren't great but if your truck is registered historical then he is out of line.
If it is registered commercial then you might have to add some of what he stated but I doubt it.

to what sort of standard? - Too slow, too dim, wrong color??

and add marker lights on the corners
aren't there ones there as standard? Military vehicles have to comply too.

add a yellow triangle on the end of the boom
Never seen this on civi wreckers unless you can't drive over 20mph then he's talking about a SMV triangle???

also got us for wipers that are too slow.
There is a standard for that?

So there aren't any forward facing turn signals - is that the problem..?

You should be able to get 24 volt bulbs for just about any light. They may just not list a light as 24 volt but just change out the bulb.

I personally would love to get a ticket like this. I get sick and tired of the DOT officers writing stupid tickets like this one. I would have a field day in court with this.

Scott - do you need bulbs or lights? I am not too far from you and brought a whole myriad of 24v bulbs back from the UK last time I went home. They are used on all big trucks there.

Now THAT is the proper attitude. If EVERYONE challenged this crap instead of rolling
they WOULD STOP IT because it would cost to much to send LEO's to court all
the time day in and day out to fight it AND the courts would LOOSE MA$$IVE money
and that THEY DO NOT WANT. All of a sudden you will hear the judge say;
CASE DISMISSED (with some excuse) as soon as the judge realizes this is going to
totally destroy there docket, and the fines they might potentially collect from those
in the pews who will just PAY instead of use the laws IN THEIR FAVOR.

I would love to here your planned defense "if" you received such an "invitation" (ticket)
CSM Davis...truly I would, right or wrong...factual or perceived.

Others will learn too.

Did he tell you you don't have to change all that stuff? The LED's off that bus probably are 12 volt and won't work anyway.

The lights were 12 volt Im just going to rebuild the old one run new wire where needed on the truck some of the wiring insulation has rotted that was exposed to the elements going to add some lolipop lights that I found on the web and some marker lights .
As for the summons was advised not to worry about it never hold up they have to ticket all the trucks going up to Fort Drum.
I remember around 1979 in Heibron Germany they cleaned out all the excess parts for an IG and buried it all parts for 816 818 656 757.. I could sure use them now!

Okay so stay on top of the ticket and make sure it gets dismissed. As for your wrecker you can add lights as You would like. I personally like all LED'S but may not be in the budget. On your lollipop lights you do need to look up NY laws as to whether you need amber forward and to the rear or an amber forward and red faced to the rear. That varies from state to state and I would not believe anyone unless they showed it to me and I read it for myself, this includes law enforcement officers, and I am one.
