Headlight / Blackout Light switches

Does anyone have a procedure for removing the blackout light and service light switches and just having the headlights come on with the main switch like civilian trucks. The service light switch is kinda mangled and doesn't stay on and instead of replacing it just would rather take them out and use the location for other switches.

Wow good luck there. I bought my M1008 without those switches and



{NOTHING}




worked. I would swap in a new switch. 10 minute job, including
fetching a beer. I bet you could get one here easy.

Put in a switch and push it behind the dash. Then you didn't modify your wiring and you have you dash space.

That is what I did but I don't remember which ones either. Just made a small wire and connect 2 terminals and the switches are gone.

If anyone would look at the wiring diagram for the Service Switch (labeled as Lighting Control Switch) it is a very easy fix. Just two jumpers.

I know which wires to jump because I do know how to read the diagrams.

Don't know where the diagrams are? They are located in the Appendix of the the TM 9-2320-289-20 and TM 9-2320-289-34 tech manuals.

Don't know how to read the diagrams and what all the wire labels are or mean? Read the first few pages of the troubleshooting section (Section 2) of the above tech manuals.

Can't find which diagram has the info you are looking for? The diagrams are broken down in sub-sections for the circuit you are working on. ie Starting, Charging, Service Lights......(ding, ding, ding....we have a winner)

Here is a hint..... match the colors.

Ouch... I have a printout of all the diagrams and I do know how to read them. Just a simple question. I am new to these trucks and have tons of electrical problems to begin with and just wanted advice from someone who had done it before. Before I messed something else up.

Are the switches not dependable or in the way?

Mine is broken and wont stay on so you have to hold it on. Just want to get rid of both of them since the blackout lights etc have already been removed.

Since you did ask nicely and have attempted to help yourself (many do neither )

Remove the Service switch. You can leave the B/O switch or remove it. The next owner of the truck will more than likely want to put them back in.

Two jumpers.

Connect the orange and orange/black wires. And the white and white/black wire.

One practice I need to get start doing is shutting the switch off. I do so on the ambulance but forget on the other trucks. Around here they will steal any truck with a 60F axle. No brake lights or service lights at night may help to draw the attention of the POPO if one is stolen.

Oh yeah that's right there were 2 jumpers. I forgot.
