I've got an M925 with a bad transmission (or just a bad torque converter); does anyone have, or know where to find, a good used working MT654CR (M939 series) Allison automatic transmission? The truck is in Columbia, S.C., so the closer to S.C. the better.

I'm also in need of a good used working 60 amp alternator. With the exception of the belt pulley, are the M939/A1 and M939A2 alternators interchangeable?

Last, if anyone is parting out M939 series trucks please let me know as I'm looking for a few other drive train and body parts (to include a nice, no rust, M939A2 14 foot cargo bed).

Please do not use the steel soldier message system as I just don't get on here much anymore; please instead send me an email (joe@armytruckparts.com).

Thanks,

Joe

Did you ever find out if the alternators are interchangeable. I bought an old style to put on an A2 truck and it looks to me like the old style will place the pulley out of line for the serpentine belt

Ok the alternators are interchangeable. One problem I encountered though is the older Leece Neville unit had mounting ears .0018" closer together than the SAW alternator. To fix this I had this amount machined off the engine bracket on my 6CTA8.3. This way the engine can accept either alternator. The pulley alignment was no problem and the serpentine pulley is perfectly inline with the belt. Note that in the direct support manual the pictures for removing and replacing the alternator show the old alternator on the A2 truck and the new alternator on the original and A1 trucks. Not sure why this is?
