Here's a couple pics of the original Proud American. Remember, the crew didn't have time to do much in the way of details or adding her name to the gun box because she had to get into the action ASAP.
The cab canvass looks almost tan since it is faded OD and the truck is nearly black. The rope you see toward the middle of the windshield is used by the crew to pull the windshield armor up when contact was made.

The Tribute Proud American has been blessed by many Guntruckers (including two of the original crew) and said to be "close enough".

May I be the first one to congradulate ALL of you excluding one for MV of the year - it has been exhilarating and an outstanding month.

If anyone makes a calendar of this poll - my suggestion is just place them in order per vote count. All are winners.

Jokers Wild - that knucklehead does not count - If I had not voted for PB I would have voted for that tank thingy of DOC's (soon from the background pic the K-18 will be in the running)

It's not over yet. Some people still have to vote!

just wondering, what happened with those gun trucks after the war ended?

Robo, only ONE GunTruck was brought back to the United States intact as a GunTruck. That's the "EVE OF DESTRUCTION" and she is on display at the Army Transportation Museum.

Some of the trucks were converted back to cargo trucks and some turned over to the South Vietnamese. I doubt we will ever know the final fate of all of them.

Time is up, time to vote.

All of his have different reasons and emotions why we bother with these expensive toys and why we bother to vote here.

  • Some members cannot really afford an MV at all but put everything in it to them to keep them rolling.
  • Some have just enough balance of money, time, space, and knowledge to restore a perfect wreck into an amazing piece of art under their own steam.
  • Other members lack in one of the departments and have to let professionals or friends do part of the work.
  • Some just have lots of money and buy a ready MV.
  • Some of the trucks are restored out of love for that vehicle.
  • Others are changed into replica’s of lost pieces of history to honor for what they stood.
  • Most probably are just restored for the heck and the fun of it.

And everything in between including those who take a perfect truck and bob it into something of their dreams. And the contenders are judged on similar arguments.

My vote balances between Proud and DaveP’s rig. Heavy on history versus a bit less and more personal preference. My priorities:

1) If my vote makes a difference, help Proud win if possible. For my feeling, Proud has a bit of everything and a lot of history to be respected.

2) If my vote does not matter there, but can help DaveP get first or second place, I’ll go that way.

So I waited with voting. Time is up now and looking at the score, the way is clear.

All the trucks have equal rights to be on the site and contend for the top spot. But with a lot of respect for the others, especially what Rayzer achieved both with his truck and with campaigning for votes, I think that as a historic first MV of the Year on our site, the historic touch and what it stand for and tries to honor should have priority this time.

Proud American it is and should be.

Thanks for the kind words ROBO and I know that you know Proud American was built out of love for THAT particular vehicle and the story/men that go along with her.

Now I wish I could just take a nap for about 4 hours and 40 minutes and it would all be over when I woke up!!
