Hi guys, finally back on the M37 project and I need your help on the bumper markings. I went to the vets office and got the info from the 214 forms for my two uncles and grandpa that served in the army.
E co,1901 ENGR AVM BN.......CO A,12th ENGR BN......and Co A 1262nd ENGR COMBAT BN
can anyone explain these and tell me how to correctly represent them on the truck ?
I want to use the first 2 on the truck, one on the front and one on the rear, as both my uncles served in the 1950s, and use my grandpas on a later project.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,THANKS !

First, typo's happen. It should be AVN instead of AVM. E Company, 1901 Engineer Aviation Battalion.

Second, going to give a BIG and TOP SECRET info here... I went to the TOP SECRET website and found them all. Super highly classified so don't tell nobody. I typed a G then an O then a G and another G and a L and an E. Then I copy and pasted each of these units in the little blank blocky thing and hit enter. Poof up each of them came. (I know, I busted your chops but you didn't walk into that door, you ran into it LOL).

Didn't find pictures but found a book about the unit.

This unit was reactivated again after 1955 and served in Germany during the Cold War as the organic EN BN to the 8th Infantry Division. I was with 8th ID and had my best friend from high school at Dexheim in the 12th. That leads to some interesting conversations during class reunions.

As will all of these units, I would ask to join their members list and post on there your uncles/grandfathers name. Ask for photos and ask specifically about the bumper markings. Heck someone there might know what specific administrative bumper number they normally rode in, never know.

There are photos of bumper numbers on this website. Looks like they were 3rd Army assets. These units were normally farmed out as needed to CORPS and then down to division and then could be sent to a combat command or regiment but at that level were normally chopped up into companies.

Never heard of GOGGLE. Must be top secret.

Apparently typos do happen.

Spoil sport. Wondering if that would fit into the theme of the first point. LOL. That happened faster than expected. You were supposed to let him catch that.

Hello all,
RookieM37, my grandfather is Fred Bender you mentioned in your post. An example of markings are 3A 1262E B1 which is 3rd Army, 1262nd Engineer, Co. B vehicle number. Hope this helps.

Yeah. Mine is marked 3(triangle denoting armor) space 3/35AR on the left and c-42 on the right. As my mentor was in the Spearhead and that was his BN and company.
