BMY M923 hydraulic reservoir?

Noob question:

What system does the hydraulic reservoir behind the tool box on the passenger side go to?

I looked in a few TM's but I could only find a reference tot he sticker, not a PMCS item or such.

Some of the trucks came with a wet kit, that had the controls in side, the reservoir, PTO and pump and the valve under the truck. Would be easy for you to install a winch. Some USMC trucks they removed the winches, not sure why, maybe to load them better on the ships?????

I got a question i have been looking through the tms for the amount of fluid the winch reservoir takes and i cant find it. I can find the gear case 2.6pt but not the reservoir. I just got my complete winch setup Sat and just putting all my ducks in a row before I install it. I have also switched my transmission fluid over to ATF. I know their was either motor oil or hydro fluid in the winch from i can see in the PTO and will the winch run on transmission fluid? Or do I have to put hydro or motor oil back in and will the mix together with the ATF. Thanks for the help

On like a M925 it has 32 qts in the system. The amounts are in the Lube order TM under Hydraulic system. It also calls for 10W oil.
The winch Hydraulic system does not run thought the transmission, so you can keep the ATF if you want in the transmission and use 10w oil in the winch system or just use Hydraulic oil.
The PTO will use what is in the transmission.

thanks for the amounts. I feel stupid after sending the question about the atf i looked at my winch again and realized that it didn't go through the winch the only thing the atf lubricates is the PTO on my transmission sorry for the dumb question. Im putting this winch on a M923A2 with CTIS and it appears I might have to modify the winch control lever box to get it to fit over my CTIS system buy the shifter, all the hoses wont allow for the control lever box to sit down on the cab floor and bolt in. That's no big deal though. If that's not correct someone please tell me b4 I go cutting a section out to clear the CTIS unit. Thanks for all your help

Not a problem, just is why you ask, to find out.
I think the A2's winch control box is not the same as the earlier trucks box. So you must have a older truck box.

I think the PTO drive shaft is longer on the A2's also. So you may have to get a longer drive shaft for the pto.

Yea I believe it is off an A1. Is that the only difference. I read someone say about a longer drive shaft I don't know

I think you will have to add a oil fitting to your transmission oil line. It is for the pto.
It comes off one of the transmission oil line and goes up to the side of the PTO.
It is for lubing the bearings on the PTO.

OK, I did the install of a winch on my M923A0. The system I had came from an M932A2. The control in the cab and the pto pump drive shaft is different from the A0/A1 to the A2. I was able trade the control and shaft with some one who was actually going the opposite way I was and you may be able to do the same. As for oil type and capacity, I used the 10wt in the hydraulics and the dry system took about 7 gallons of oil. Be prepared for an SOB of a time installing the PTO drive on the trans as there is not enough clearance until you unbolt the rear engine mounts and shift the trans to the left and even then it is VERY tight. I know that others have done the same and it is a big job but I think it was worth it.

You are right about a SOB to remove the PTO, I just did it on a M925. But I can see how it would be a bear on an A2.
On the A0 and A1's you have the hole in the floor board to work thought.

Oh yes, the axcess hole is a VERY helpful thing when installing the PTO drive unit on the trans of an A0/A1. The A2 is farther forward and has even more restrictive axcess for the PTO. The donor A2 I pulled mine from I had to remove the exhaust pipe from the turbo down to the next coupling to gain axcess to the PTO. Anyone doing the conversion be ready for REAL work.

Hey guys I have seen this question asked but have not seen it answered. The TM's call for 2.6 pt of fluid for the winch, Now is that for the DS of the truck or the PS or both? My winch does not have the self level wind. I am just servicing all my fluids. And I got fluid out of both sides of the truck. The level plug on the driver side does not look like it can be removed because of the mounting brackets do not give the plug any room to back out and the passenger side is going to be a bear as well. I am hoping someone knows the answer to this. Thanks
