Just reading the other day in the latest issue of American Rifleman (the NRA magazine), that the weapon of choice for some of the LRRP teams in Viet Nam was an RPG (they'd get partisans to carry their extra rounds).

And apparently they'd doctor up the rounds by taping 16d nails and packets of tear gas directly to them, to get the most out of every round (anti-tank, antipersonnel, anti-ALL-and everything).

It's kinda of funny. I went into tanks because one, there cool and two I thought if I ever had to go into combat I would be safe inside it ! Then in the first day of orientation I'm told I have a life expectancy of 5 minutes in combat ! That every little Tom, Dick and Harry with a "RPG" can take out my tank !

Just a guess, rustystud, but:

- At Tank School, did they train you all to get a whole LOT done in just 5 minutes!?

Actually the U.S. military has the fastest "Target Acquisition" and "One Round One Kill" ratio then any other country in the world. We can acquire the target and shot it dead in under 1 minute. All this while maintaining speeds of up to 30mph. We drilled that constantly. "Desert Storm" and all the others following proved it. Even now after 37 years I can still do the drills in my head.

Quadjeeper, I like the build. And reading the comments here it seems to distract from the point of this thread. To document your build. I like yours so much I am thinking of doing something similar.

Thanks Oilfield. Yes, some think what they consider normal/good for them should be how it is for all. I have never said my idea's are right or correct. It's just how I am building my rig. I try to respect others and their ideas, and I'd appreciate the same. Constructive criticism is fine, but to harp on things is another. Thanks for your and others input.

Finished the bolt removal and scraped and vacuumed the rust up. Did the Oshpo treatment late this am, was dry early this afternoon. So figured my battery cutout space on some plywood and transferred the measurements to the floor. Cut out the floor and one crossmember so far, need to remove one more tomorrow. Since there is no real crossmember on the front of the box, will add a piece of angle iron for reinforcement. The space will allow 8 batteries to be installed. Can install one more on each side in front of the mud guard if need be. Will have a removable section of floor to access the batteries. Compartment will be vented and floor/door insulated and weatherstipped.

Those cross members are what is holding your box to the frame. (i.e., the reason the floor doesn't buckle and your box slump onto your tires.) Are you doing something to return the structure you removed?

Yes, that is what I stated in my last post, "Since there is no real crossmember on the front of the box, will add a piece of angle iron for reinforcement".
