Does anyone know if the replacement brake components that you buy are compatible with DOT 5 Silicone brake fluid? I have had mixed results. On some units the master cylinders / wheel cylinders last with out incident. On others they leak with in a few months to a year. Does the material inside the parts break down from the DOT 5 vs the DOT 3 brake fluid. Anyone else have any information. i have been buying new parts not rebuilt and have had mixed results. Nothing that I can pin point. Thank you for looking.

Any brake parts should not be affected by DOT 5 vs DOT 3. I'v used both in cars over the years and never had problems. DOT 5 will cause leaks in alot of reman parts. My thoughts where always that the specs are not as good as brand new. I'v also had brand new calipers fail within a few weeks with DOT3. Even MOOGs top brand just are not what they used to be. I think it's the luck of the draw.

Well it is getting a bit expensive and it makes a huge mess under the hood when the master cylinder leaks. But the biggest cost is the rear brakes on the M1008. When the wheel seal leaks it ruins the rear brake linings. Everything I tried to remove the silicone was fruitless. I just replace the entire set of brake shoes. I just did the right rear on an M1008 last week and now the left side is leaking and locking up. I had that left side apart at the time and it was dry and dusty inside. I have a leaking master cylinder on one of my M1009 and it drips all over everything. I think the silicone effects the rubber parts under the hood. Sort of like DOT3 brake fluid does. Thank you for the response. I will get new master cylinders from now on instead of remanufactured. Either way they are warranted for life.

Nope. I never buy from Autozone or Advanced. They do not give me the shop discounts I get from real venders. I do buy alot from NAPA. Bottom line is even the best line of parts are made off shore. Just not the same as years ago.

I agree they are all the same. I bought genuine GM parts for CUCV's that were Made in China. And that was 15 plus years ago. I bought them from the GM dealer. So no they are all made the same. I was just looking at a new GMC Terrain and parts were made in Brazil. I bought surplus CUCV M1009 rear brake drums in the military cardboard boxes and all they were made in China and that was 20 years ago. So I think the automotive parts market has turned on us.

Hi Guys , BEWARE of Chinese rubber most is poor quality , now for Dot 5 , not all rubber parts in brake systems can be used with Dot 5 , the rubber must have been made to be useable with it or you will get leaks, do not assume that what you are buying will be ok , contact the manufacturer of the brake parts, don't believe everything the guy behind the computer screen at the parts store is telling you ,
