5 Ton VIN for SF97?

Just bought my first M931A2 and looking forward to going thru it and use it around the farm and for parades. I looked over it and could not find any of the numbers on the dash or frame that state the VIN so I can complete the SF97 application for a title. I noticed one label on the dash that states the S/N and then there is a much longer number below that but it does not say it is the VIN. Any suggestions where I should look and how many digits are usually in the VIN on these trucks?

It is a 1991 model with hard top and no winch if that helps.

It should be what is listed on the "Identification No." line of the data plate.

For a M931A2, it will be something like this -

1007AAxxx
1007ABxxx
1030AAxxx
1044AAxxx
2007ABxxx
31/xxxxx

The National Stock Number (2320-01-230-0302) and contract # (DAAEXX-XX-X-XXXX) are not unique to your truck.

There is also a six digit identifier that is the truck registration number. Some will be letters and the first digit will be an "N" This is different from the VIN or serial number.

I have seen some trucks with the registration number stamped in front of the serial number on the data plate.

I don't believe A2s have any serial numbers stamped in the frame.

Hope this helps.

I agree, I have yet to find any of my A2's with a serial number stamped on the frame. Should be a black plate on the dash right side with 31/xxxxx

Frame stamping of the S/N is usually a result of an O/H at some point. My m923 does not have it but I have seen many others with it. Hit and miss but pretty sure is has to do with an O/H.

My understanding is that the AM General trucks all have it on the frame, and the BMY trucks only have it if they went through O/H at some point, and hit and miss with that. I sold an M931A2 that had it stamped into the frame, and I have an M923A2 that does not have it anywhere except on the dataplate.

Left front frame rail. Horizontal, not the vertical numbers which are stamped a little further forward.

I don't have an A2 on hand that has it or I'd post a pic of that. I recently sold an M931A2 that had it there - the buyer verified it at handoff.

Thank you everyone. I did not notice a number on the frame by the power steering pump so I will use the S/N off the dash data plate.
