M1009 Brake Pad Question

Is it normal with a new brake pad install to smell a little burning brakes after install? Or is this a sign that I need new calipers?
I wouldn't consider it so. Check the caliper for binding. If it is binding, check to see if you have a bad hose. As the hoses get old the rubber collapses internally and can restrict the pressure from returning back up the lines.

did you use the correct break fluid? In the mil they used DOT5. DOT 5 does not mix with water. DOT 3 & 4 do mix with water.

Sounds likes your calipers are binding if your lines are in good condition.

Infrared gun. Monitor and.compare temps. Only treatment for binding calipers is clean and lubed slides. Binding pistons require rebuild or replace. If temps are similar on both sides, odds are you will be fine.
