Before and current pictures. Museum and local MVPA members have assisted me in reviving the old girl. Still have a lot to do.
Been working on it for about a year now.
Amazing what an old disabled Huey mechanic can get done with fellow MV enthusiast.
1st work was to raise money to pour a cement pad-done
2nd replace broken landing gear and paint pad-done
3rd clean up and replace all broken windows-done (except chin bubbles)
4th make fake copilot door-done
5th patch all skin damage-in progress
6th redue interior-in progress

Museum curator and local MVPA president in picture, and two other MVPA members helped me cover the nose up. That alone gave it a better look. Working from the nose back it patching her up. Dedicating at least one one day a month to it, I'm expecting to be completed in about 18 months. All depends on the available help and funds.

Correct, its the short 204 series.
We think it spent its whole life in the states. But I did see pictures of this model Marine chopper in Vietnam.
Any additional info would be great.

The above information is off the data plate.

Museum was told that it was delivered to Naval Air Station San Diego. The Huey is suppose to be a TH-1E model trainer and only a small ammount were made. Was with the HMLA-267 (VHI-5), Marine Squadron.

Being an old Army Huey mech/crewchief, it is just like working on the old Army UH-1C/M model. It does have the permanent rescue hoist. Which I never saw before. In the Army I worked on UH-1B/C/M (for post museums) & UH-1D/E/H/N models. Most of the time I worked on and crewed H models.

That is one interesting project you have taken on, It will be nice to see the progress on it with pictures, maybe videos? good luck with it, your work schedule will be followed avidly as you gradually proceed through to the eventual conclusion..

The last time I retired it was as a miltary records specialist with the Veterans Benefit Administration, US Department of Veterans Affairs. Over the years i have collected thousands of documents concerning military history such as the entire rotary wing incident database from the US Army Aviation Safety Center at fort Rucker. I have put as many as I can online as the "Bud Harton Collection" at the the Vietnam Virtual Archive at Texas Tech university:

Been too hot to do much work these last two months. But should be back at it soon. Working on the damaged right sync elevator right now. As smaller parts fit in my air-conditioned shed.

We have picked out a paint close to the original color.

I posted a reply earlier that apparently didn't get past the moderator. The last i retired was with the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Benefit Administration as a military documents specialist. I have thousands of documents from the military includinga copy of all rotary wing incidents in Vietnam from the US Army Aviation Safety Center at Fort Rucker. This included all five US services that had helicopters in VN. During the VN war, I served with the 173rd Assault Helicopter Company as a crew chief aboard a UH-1C armed helicopter (gunship)

During the VN deployment, I am having trouble locating this aircraft as being assigned to VMHA-267 or VMO-5 which was the original unit. Here's a list of the UH-1Es assigned to VMHA 267 during the VN war:


6052 UH-1E 151858 (LATER:N121FC US FOREST SERVICE 1987-2002)
6062 UH-1E 155347
6209 UH-1E 155354

Aside from the word MARINE on the tailboom. We found and kept QL on the tail and HT-18 on the tailboom for now. Also installed a NOS red jump seat and recovered the passenger seat the same color as the jump seat IMG_7145.jpgIMG_7146.jpgIMG_7147.jpg

One of my coworkers, a Marine pilot, said he flew UH-1Es in HT-18 (Helicopter Training Squadon 18 and they got rid of them in 1983. Which makes sense since we were told its last active duty unit was the aircraft tech training school in Millington TN 1983-1993. The QL apparently is for HML-777 that traded its 34s for UH-1Es in 1972. Prior to that it was suggested by someone that did reserach many years ago on it, that it was in HML-367. It was manufactured in mid 1968. Part of the last batch to fill a contract for UH-1Es.

Well it looks great, I got some radio stuff, maybe first aid kits and other things. My mos 67N30, 67S and 67t30. but retired with a lot of time in the sky.:beer:

I was a 67N30 too. Will PM you on the parts. I was also ALSE and Aviation Safety certified. Crewed an H model for 10 years. Did a tour in S Korea, W Germany, Gulf War and 2 in MFO on peacekeeper duty. Then retired the same month the 101st converted the last Huey unit, 6-101st, over to Hawks.
