As I stated in another thread...just add hockey pucks with a hole drilled in the center....unless you are adding 40in tires or another motor that requires a body lift...why are lifting it?
you can also add body lift kits installed on civ H1 Hummers...there are several on the market. Or try some of the vendors over at humvee.net

I've not yet decided if I will lift it.
still weighing out the pros and cons...
Seems that putting a cummins in it is off the table for now so I've lost that as a reason.
However, being higher off the ground is nice for driving through deep snow and keeping the body clear of ground hazards, plus the truck looks lighter and more agile when lifted.
But realistically, stock height does seem more than capable enough.

Btw, Any good sources for spare tire carriers?
seems like the nice ones are quite expensive, I'm thinking of making my own...

Lifting the body would solve nothing. The A-arms and center are what get caught on HMMWVs as there really isn't an approach or decent angle.

Is it true that the M1165 is factory built with spacers and longer bolts to make the body ride higher as compared to the M998?
Did AM general decided it was an improvement?

If by "improvement" you mean that they had to do it to accommodate the turbo in the 6.5, then yes, lifting the body is an improvement since they need to make sure that it fits correctly. Otherwise, there was no need to lift the body.

My original plan was to install coil spring spacers. but it seems that it involves a whole lot of readjustment to get the camber and caster right...plus i'm guessing that that the wheels will be pulled closer together.
anyways, some of the newer humvees are built with a much higher suspension, what's up with that?

The ground clearance between the wheels seems to be raised only by the tire being bigger

That's not a newer Humvee or even factory built for that matter. A Google search shows that the vehicle on the right is equipped with an Oshkosh designed Tak-4 driveline and suspension upgrade to restore cargo capacity when equipped with armor and to improve survivability when encountering IED's.

Given the military's quest to replace the Humvee for combat operations, obviously they didn't go this route.

That makes sense. Looking at it makes building a new purpose built vehicle seem more efficient
