Hey guys -

Won a 998 about two months ago and although the EUC hasnt yet cleared I figure I better start thinking about the recovery.

I'm just wondering how tough this is going to be. Is this a manned site or will I be limited to a day or two per week for recovery?

I am going to have it trucked down to Austin, Texas. Am I better off flatbedding the truck out of camp Ripley to St. Paul and having the long haul driver pick up from there?

Don't know about GP. GL used to have a guy come in like once every two weeks it seemed.... It was a real bitch for me to schedule a day to pick up the three trucks I got out of there. Hopefully GP is better. I'd give GP a call and ask for the contact persons number. I'd just have the truck picked up there all the way. There's a towing place right in Little Falls I used to tow my wrecker out of there when I couldn't get the time to get it. If it becomes a close window you're worried about, I'd have the company retrieve it to their lot, then have the trucker pick it up from there. Think it was like $100 or so to have it pulled out of Ripley to their lot. Let me know if you want their number and info, I'll have to dig it up.

Thanks for the help Patriot. I have yet to find anyone that has done a GP recovery at Camp Ripley and GP wont provide details on pickup windows until the EUC clears. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I know that people have towed their newly acquired trucks home via U-Haul trailers and while some will say that it "barely" fits, I would say that it's not the best idea. I did it myself and wouldn't do it again. The 7000# rated trailer is the gross weight and it says that the max vehicle weight is 4999 right there on the fender-not enough for the M998 curb weight. I would assume the 7500# rated trailer probably bumps the weight up an additional 500# which doesn't exactly make it the ideal choice either. My truck had the BFG Baja's on them and there was no "barely" fitting - I jacked up the trailer fender good getting it off (thankfully I had the extra insurance).

Like I said, I know others have done it but it doesn't mean it's the best choice. Pony up and rent a trailer better suited for something this big.

I believe this is the one I used. Still had it written on a piece of paper on my sadly messy desk. Might be less with a HMMWV, I had a 40000 wrecker towed there. I have written $125 + 12.50, think they charge storage fee too if it's there for a while. You'll have to call them. Good luck guys, mine's in Sparta, WI. Hope it isn't Dec. before my EUC is approved.
