Do It Yourself Transfer Fuel Pump

I needed to drain the fuel tank on my M1035 truck. So I made up this little pump. The valve on the side selects from filtered fuel to non-filtered fuel. The extra hole by the valve was a mistake. The fittings on the end are "quick disconnects" from a motorcycle. I still need to install the power lines. I figured since it's in a 50cal ammo can they should be military style connectors. So I ordered some from McMaster-Carr. This pump should move between 3 (filtered) to 5 (unfiltered) gallons of fuel a minute. There are 2 check valves to keep the fuel from backflushing into the filter. I also used DOT nylon hose. I didn't want the hoses rotting on me and then leaking all over the place in a few years.
I know it's not "official" military equipment but it will be used to "support" military equipment, so I guess that should count for something . Anyway maybe this will give others some ideas for their fuel needs.

Well I found out that pump does not put out 5 gallons a minute ! It's more like 2.5 gallons a minute. Oh well it gets the job done. I'll make a list of parts I used later.

I have a similar electric pump that I have used for the same thing. And I have recently acquired a military fuel filter and valve/switch that came off a water pump trailer. I might have to rig me up one of these set ups.

I like the ammo can packaging! Might be neat to use a slave port connector cable out of the ammo can to use for your pump power input connection method.

I got a wix head from Napa that looks exactly the same.
I have the box from Napa I don't know if it will help you or not but here it is.

It was a WIX filter base with a 1"X14 thread. The filter I used was a WIX 33107 . This gave me a 10 micron filter that would fit into the filter base and the ammo can. The pump is a "Facet" which I had gotten from NAPA a while ago. The NAPA # BK6101033 . You can find these pumps NOS all day long on eBay for under $50.00 . The fuel quick disconnects where from a Triumph motorcycle. You can also find these on eBay. They are 1/4" NPT male threads with a 3/8" hose barb. The 2 check valves are "New Parker 2650 fuel check valves" I got on eBay. The last major part was just a 3 way brass ball valve with handle I also got on eBay. The rest was fittings I already had. For the electrical connectors I just ordered some Mil. Spec connectors from McMaster-Carr. Part #8903T31 and #8903T21 .

I received the rest of the parts for my fuel pump today. So this weekend I'll finish it. I went with Military connectors to keep up the look ! Plus they are the best way to connect wiring. I also got the end plugs to protect the connectors when it is not in use.

That's neat rusty I like it. No ammo can big enough to fit my transfer pump into though. Mine is a 1.5" pump, and my 3 micron filter is bigger than a .50 Cal can. Lol

I have two of the 24 volt fuel transfer pumps with the 2" lines but that is just too big for anything but major fuel transfers. So since I needed to drain out my CUCV tanks I needed something that a 5/16" or 3/8" fuel line could get into through the fuel filler neck. This sytem works just great. It is compact so I can store it easily, and it will not get damaged being bashed around.

I finished up the project today. Installed the military connectors and cable.

Here are my other transfer fuel pumps. Both of these units are new. One of these will be mounted in my M105 trailer with another fuel tank. As you can see there is no way to make one of these transfer fuel in a CUCV truck !

Holy transfer pump Batman! Are those for use during the Zombie apocalypse so you can scavenge diesel on the run? Those make my 12 GPM transfer pump look puny!

Theses are the 24volt (50gpm) ? military units. I have the manual somewhere. I got them since I own several large diesel fuel tanks, and plan on putting one in my M105 trailer. This way I can refuel when I'm in the deepest, darkest parts of Alaska ! LOL ! Also when the Zombie Apocalypse comes I can suck from any gas station ! LOL !
Though actually I only have 80ft of hose. It's some special EPDM type of material that can take getting run over and still work. The suction lines have ribbing built on the outside but it can still collapse. I don't know how it can pull a suction without collapsing but they said it will. I still bought some regular suction lines that are really hard (20ft) . I have at this time only run the pumps to check that they actually work. According to the manual you are "not" suppose to run these pumps without fuel in them. They come with a built in manual priming pump. The pumps themselves are brand new, but the hose's are used. Two separate auctions.

I forgot to show my fuel lines. I used "perma clamp" hose clamps since I didn't want to deal with screw clamps as I always seem to get cut from the loose end as they never stay tight to the hose.
