M998 from Fort Hood to Austin, TX, about 65 miles.

Just got my M998 released by GP, and looking to get it from Fort Hood to Austin, TX (about 65 miles) in the next couple of weeks. I had a little trouble with my towing company, so I'm looking for alternatives (because it's good to have a backup plan).

The M998 is the truck config with no armor or doors, so it should be closer to the 5400 lbs range. Also, I have a Ibis Tek tow bar available for use if it's needed.

Anyone have any suggestions or can help out?

Find another towing out fit. Roll back truck will work. Can you rent a trailer? Tow it with another truck. 65 miles is not bad recovery distance.

OK, so I'm toying with the DIY route. I've seen a few post such as this one in various forums that show an HMMWV indeed will fit on the back of a U-Haul trailer: http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=243236&start=240

With a unarmored HMMWV with an empty curb weight of about 5200 lbs, a U-Haul trailer that is rated to carry 5290 lbs and a U-Haul pickup truck that is rated to pull 6000 lbs, it looks DIY doable if I'm slow and careful.

Has anyone else had experience with the DIY U-Haul route? Open to suggestions here...

I can help you if need be, just give me a shout!
