BMY wrecker power divider

Can someone please explain how the power divider on the BMY M939 wrecker works, possibly some pictures? Would it mount on a (91BMY) M931, given the short frame? It seems rather inefficient going through the Allison automatic. How about coming off the front of the engine for hydraulics?

There is a cab lever that engages the driveshaft that runs the wrecker body hydraulic pump. I believe its a special transfer case.

It is simply a PTO that mounts onto the transfer case. M936 wreckers don't have a power devider like the older wreckers.
Would an old style power divider work if I came up with one??...it had two take off's, right? Or was that just basically another transfer case, in line with the output of the first?

I wonder how hard one (pto type, not separate gearbox) is to find? I'm willing to come up above the frame rails. I have a double piston pump to drive.

Does the torque converter lock or can I make it lock?

Two out puts, plus can be disengaged at the power divider, the pto at the transfer is live 100% of the time, the power divider has the sliding clutch to disengage the transfer driven shaft, also the drive for the rear winch can be reversed, IN-NATURAL-OUT

Thanks for the explanations.

I went and looked at a friends M939A2 wrecker and saw the PTO that comes off the rear, in line with the TC input. It uses a drive-shaft to turn a constant displacement pump.

Dave at Eastern has the PTO, but it breaks my budget. Go to my parts wanted page and you can see what it looks like.

How about a deuce transfer case or a lighter truck manual tranny, driven off the M931 TC to be used as a PTO?

Ron, if you happen to have a picture or drawing of the power divider, would you post one?

How about a small pony motor and hyd pump. Sounds like alot of work to reconfigure the trucks drivetrain.
I think you're right Will. I bid on one of the self contained 4 cylinder units a while back but they got expensive. I bid on some generators for the engine but never got serious. It just seems a waste to have such a nice power plant that will sit most of the time unused but hooked up, when I need the HP for saw(s).

Someone has to have something laying around. One of the single cyl engines from an older 3kw gen might work.
Yes, one is offered at a lower price on PM. Your post made me think about my use as the auxiliary power source and also having a primary saw power source that is independent. I think the truck may be enough for all my needs if the TC PTO can handle 50-70 hp.

I will mull it over as I work on the frame. If I can make it the only power source, it might make sense. Thanks.

I got a lot of (5) fifth wheel plates and trunions for a proper hitch to the tractor. Pick them up Wednesday at Columbus.
