After some consultation and advice from Mwmules I now have a mule to wrench on. M274A5, electric start great runner, all the rails are there, motor and drive train rebuilt recently by the previous owner. Started striping it down today, and made some good progress. plan on painting 24087 semi gloss after I have everything soda blasted.

Wow Russ you didn't waste any time getting it torn down. I know with the level of work you do it will be a beauty when done.

Another Ahab the early decks were made of magnesium and later decks were aluminum.

Love the mules:

- What's the deck on a mule made of; is that sheet steel, or is it aluminum (or something else maybe)?

If it's an A5 then its aluminum... A4 and lower where all magnesium Don't know why...His mule bed is an A5 it doesn't have the 4 wheel steer access hatch on the front to disable it... But it's a nice looking mule strip it down and bondo the holes or use lab metal..

Made some more progress today, got the frame stripped down more and got the motor pulled and the rear main seal replaced, also found one of the spark plugs was barely threaded in:mad:. Still need to seal up the oil pan gasket, who ever rebuilt this motor did not do a very good job. Going to swap some shrouds off of a spare motor I have because they are a bit nicer, and then hit it with some engine paint.

Might want to check the oil pump gear teeth for signs of ware and damage if you have the Bell housing off. If you haven't done so already. ahhh the joy of an engine rebuild.

Finally have time to start working on the mule project again, got the motor put back together and started blasting the deck.

Not to much unfortunately, to busy with other projects and no shop space, once the new shop gets built the project should resume.

I started blasting the deck a few months back, looks like it should clean up pretty good, will have to do a bit of straightening to fulfill my ocd.
