Care to share?Who make a good replacement ring and pinion? The factory one was not able to stand up to my abuse.
4wd burn outs, hopping up and down on dry pavement pulling out a stuck international 6wheel dump. Chipped the ring gear.Care to share?
Wear out?
break?
grenade?
Maybe your how and why will help someone else prevent same fate.
Well....that would for sure do it.4wd burn outs, hopping up and down on dry pavement pulling out a stuck international 6wheel dump. Chipped the ring gear.
Did you add any weight to the truck ?4wd burn outs, hopping up and down on dry pavement pulling out a stuck international 6wheel dump. Chipped the ring gear.
no......Did you add any weight to the truck ?
It needs a complete rebuild. I'm sure I had a bad bearing or something loose.Where did it chip on the tooth (that can tell alot)? Also what is your backlash? Maybe get some marking compound and do a pattern on it?
My opinion is that if you are chipping teeth and not breaking axles (outer stubs) there is something wrong with your gear setup. Worn bearings, little to no bearing preload, incorrect pinion depth, incorrect backlash, poor pattern.
I don't know what brand to suggest for gears, I have only installed four sets, two USA Standard gear, one Yukon and one factory Dana. All are working fine.
For replacement I'd suggest that you ask around locally and see who gets the most suggestions. Also make sure they have a case spreader, I have seen a 44 where a guy took a grinder to chamfer the housing so that the carrier could be beat in to get bearing preload. There is no shortage of hack mechanics.
