Hey Sarge,

I live in MD, but work in Laurel, DE. Have a CUCV (M1009). What's up?
Its good to see another CUCV owner in the area.

I'm having starting problems.

I have installed a new 24v Starter and flywheel, old ones had teeth missing. Everything was fine until one night after attempting to start noticed smoke coming from under the hood and no start.

After troubleshooting found a fusible link melted, replaced fusible link, after hooking batteries up the starter started spinning ( keys where not in the ignition at that time).

Then replaced the relay under the dashboard, attempted to start the starter spins but doesn't engage.

Any suggestions or ideas.

Chris

I have more questions than suggestions, but I feel a different thread might attract other members who are much more in the know than I.

If you do this, may I suggest adding to the above information:

Did you check clearance between starter pinion tooth and flywheel?
Were able to start your vehicle after replacing starters?
What relay did you replace the defective one with?

Mmm... that's all that came to mind initially. Again a different thread and your bound to get some assistance.

Welcome aboard by the way, I see these are your first posts.
