I find if the temperature goes below 60 degrees F. my MEP-002A and MEP-003A need the glow plugs. They will start without it but they smoke a lot. Now my MEP-531 can start fine at 30 degrees without any help from the preheater.I keep forgetting to pre heat my 803 and it fires up perfect. At what temperature does pre heat begin to be a good idea?
In the last 4 years I replaced 2 glow plugs. My MEP-002A gets run about 24 hours every month so basically 100 hours a year. So two glow plugs in 400 hours use. That's my usage, yours will of course very. How often do these glow plugs go bad though? My MEP-002A starts up ok now. I wouldn't mind two of them for $12 bucks, but to buy 10, seems like a lot for something I don't need that much of. Spare parts are good to have.
