Hey guys and Gals a quick question, wondering what a comfortable sustained speed on the interstate would be in A M-1088 with the cat /Allison drive train . manual says 55 governed, BUT we all know how that works, Is 65 comfortable with say a rolling load of 20 k and what is the best approach to alter/ modify to attain the 65 MPH, thanks Andy

You'll have to change the final drive ratios in the axles to get more road speed. If you go with the 3.09 (or.07) that will get you to 68mph at max rpm.

However at max rpm fuel economy is dismal.

Your not going over 55 without changing the pumpkin gears out.

The MRAP final gears will take you over that, but they are 500 a pop. Might have to change out the tires as well, some of the FMTV tires are not rated for speeds over 55.

My stock 1997 LMTV runs happy on the highway at 52-53 mph. There are a number of threads that talk about cruising speeds. Topping out at 58 and hitting the governed speed is taxing the 3116 with stock gearing so most folks run under 55.

This is just me but if I could run 60 without hitting max RPM I would be content.

57mph. I don't know of anyone who swapped out the gears on an intermediate axle. Larger tires will bring the 5th wheel up even higher making it more impractical than it already is for anything but pulling a military trailer. The vehicle isn't designed for speed. It will pull a lot of weight though.

The deuce is apples and oranges. Lmtv has 3 seats that fit full size adults and significantly more pulling power than an older deuce.
