Isnt $400 a lot for a used take out transmission, or is that about what they go for most places? They are about $200 around here but maybe its a supply & demand thing?

I don't know. $400 is the cheapest I have found.

If your 5th is good, put it in the 3052, then its a 3053!

How much does the top speed differ between the two transmissions? Will the 3052 bolt up with no modification if it is a 3052?

The 3052 is a "1 to 1 ratio" and the 3053 is "1 to 0.69 ratio" . They both will interchange just fine as they basically are identical except for the 5th gear. Actually 5th and 4th gear, as in the 3053 fourth gear becomes the fifth gear overdrive and fifth gear becomes fourth gear or "1:1" .
