Rear drive shaft rattle

So my rear drive shaft rattles quit loudly only when idling everything seems tight no play in the u joints and drives fine no rattle. It goes away if I push up on the drive shaft a bit. I always thought it was my exhaust pipe rattling so I ignored it till the other day when I decided to fix it. Is this normal or a symptom of failing components?

Forgot to mention it's the new style rear drive shaft with 242 T case
pull the shaft and check it, I just replaced a shaft that appeared fine, when I pulled it to replace the output seal on the tcase, the ujoint was very tight and binding, I replaced the entire shaft. Those shafts are cheap for what they are.

there are like 4 bolts holding the rear joint in place, then pull it out.
Alo check heat shields on the exhaust for rattles.

heat shields are good. it does sound like heat shields though its fairly annoying but if i put pressure on the drive shaft or just hold it it stops rattling the interesting thing is it only rattles once the truck warms up.

Just curious if you have a fording exhaust on it.
Sometimes the wire mesh guard vibrates. ( Broken weld) It is kind of odd that yours stops making noise when you push on drive shaft however.

I don't have fording exhaust yet. I'm 100% sure it's not the exhaust. Maby a binding joint like Retiredwarhorses says or maby a crack? I will dig deeper this weekend.

Just curious, does it sound like this?

That's what mine does/did. Same t-case and shaft as you. It doesn't do it as bad anymore after alternating running some 2 stroke oil and Diesel Kleen every fill up through it for a while, which has smoothed out the idle considerably. I just add Diesel Kleen now.

Like you, everything seems tight and I don't have any vibration (aside from normal!) when driving. Only does it when warm and only in neutral. Put it in gear and it goes away. Pull down or push up on the shaft it goes away.

Since it's lessened considerably, I've just put it on the back burner since at some point down the road I'll be doing a driveline upgrade and other than being annoying it didn't seem to affect anything.
