I've seen a couple listings on epay for 6.5TD and 4l80 combos and I know that the 4l80 (1997 and older) are no different than the military ones. Can the civilian 6.5td be placed directly into a humvee and use all the humvee electrical connections? If not, would it be worth the modifications to try and install a civi engine in a humvee?

every thing should be the same the, 4l80 will need a wire harness if your doner engine has a serpentine belt you have 2 options. One use the system on the engine. or 2 replace all pulleys and water pump to bring it back to v belts, the serpentine belt water pump spins backwards good luck.

I assume that the water pump for the 6.2l can't be brought over to the 6.5td?

I think it can,but all the engines we had in Iraq were 6.5's the namodels had v belts and the turbo models had serpentine belts.Although they were a pia to keep every thing adjusted I liked the redundancy of multiple v belts

no....you would need to strip the civ motor down to a long block and build back up with Hmmwv specific parts, IJ pump, mechanical wastegate etc.... nothing from 6.2 or 6.5NA vbelt will transfer over to a turbo, except for sensors.

Agreed. The H1 engine is not very different than a Chevy van 6.5 TD with all computer engine management. In my opinion though, go with a GEP HMMWV pullout rather than a tired GM 6.5.
