M1102 - R16.5 Tire and Wheel weight

Hey guys,

Dumb question but can I put a 33x12.5x16.5 tire on the stock rim of my M1102? I'm guessing yes but wanted to make sure. I know most people just change the rims (Chevy, Dodge, Ford etc...) but I found a set of cheap 16.5 tires and wanted to see if anyone else has ever done it. Any reason why I shouldn't?

Also, anyone know the weight of the stock rims?

Thanks!

Yes, they will fit.

If memory serves me it weights about 38 pounds.
Dont remember what the rubber beadlock/run flat weights.

The stock rims are 2 piece wheels right? (they look like it). Sorry, I don't know much about these but if I bring it to a shop like Firestone do you think they'd be able to mount the new tires for me?

I saw an article on the 2 piece rims and it kind of scared me...Just wondering because I don't want to buy these 16.5 tires and then find out I can't mount them.

Yes, stock wheels are 12 bolt, 2 piece wheels.
Most tire shops won't touch them (they claim liability issues).
You will have to disassemble the wheel to get tire & run flat off.
Then you can just drop your 33 on there, bolt it back together & your good.
Remember low air pressure you can loose a bead or both.
DO NOT go by the psi painted on the side of the trailer.
Go by what's on the TIRE !

yes, they will work even they will work even the same bead angle.Use the bead lock, and remember you are going to need a new o-ring or you will have a leak. As stated earlier use the recommended pressure,on the tires commercial tires especially bf goodrich tires the carcasses fall apart if run low.

Do you guys know where I can get a new O ring? Also, I don't need any special tools for this right?
This type of 2 piece rim is easy to work with (I'm presuming it's the same as the 5ton combat rims)

1) deflate fully.

2) disassemble and clean.

3) reassemble with new tire. Torque properly.

4) inflate, preferably using a lock - on chuck that you can walk away from. That way if it unseats it won't kill you....

Scratch that I found one.

Sorry last question - Do I need to balance these after and if so, I don't think my local shops will do it. Any ideas?

Yes, I would balance them.
Any REAL tire place can balance them, most firestones, goodyears, discount tire or ntb's CANT (mentally or physically).

Find a truck tire shop !
