I want to rebuild the governor on my M35A3. The engine governor has the following numbers on it:
s/n 00257519-A, group pt No 113198900 lot ambac- 2Y ND DA

I called the local Caterpillar dealer in Hayward, California and she quoted me $2000 for the rebuild which I thought was ridiculous. Know any good rebuilders for this?

There are quite a few. I know of 2 in Indiana (and am sure there are many more). You should be able to find one locally with some networking. If not, I'll provide some names in the midwest. I have one (smaller) about to go in that includes the Isuzu C240 to let them set it all up properly. Good luck

Just curious as to what happened to it that you are rebuilding it.

The engine will not start - it had 15 year old fuel in it when I got the truck from auction. Probably jammed up the works. A professional
diesel mechanic told me to rebuild it.

Is this the correct thread for this posting? Someone said I should post to a different thread?
A3 is a deuce, so not a problem. While I'm sure there are pump threads to research, I don't know if they are specific to the Cat 3116. I have one, well two, (ones for sale). Both mine run fine, but my keeper has a rebuilt tranny going in and will be made to 4 x 4.

lets start from sctatch the downfall of the 3116 is fuel issues, first thing I would do is get fuel up to the lift pump. the lift pump on the 3116 is driven by the accessory drive at the back of the governor. its a little gear pump like a Detroit has, which feeds a common rail in the cylinder head. the cam has an extra lobe that operates a rocker that through a plunger will pressurize a the fuel and squirt it. you should have a hand pump on the engine that with about 20 strokes should flood the system and remove all air. if that is your problem you have an air leak some where. the pumps seldom go bad but with too much air in the system they will self destruct also is sat long enough to dry out they will not pick up the fuel that is why you have a plunger type primer pump on that truck.
