M872 'Quality Deficiency'

Have you guys noticed that large quantities of M872 trailers are being sold as scrap (must be mutilated) due to a 'quality deficiency'? I always liked these trailers... Anyone familiar with what the issue is? I read on here that there was a MWO to strengthen the frame near the king pin. Are these merely trailers that the MWO was never done to? I hate seeing nice stuff get cut up like this.

I think it is easier for some drmo's to scrap and give their business to GL than list to GP. Certain location(s) next to me sell alot of scrap on GL that should belong to the other folks "wheeled" contract and I think the "scrap" is an end around.

There are a couple of other threads about this- sounds like some of the frames rusted out from the inside- causing some major structural failures. I have one that looks like new, but I will be checking it out carefully.

You are correct...Frame rust is the issue.

We turned in 60 of our M872 trailers last year after a safety inspection notice came down from big Army.
