These skids don't slide all that easy on metal. I had mine in the back of my pickup and winched it out onto a trailer for starters. After I got it sorted out I drug it off the trailer with my tractor. When I was winching it out of the truck I had to put tension on the cable then work the unit side to side with a crowbar to get it to move then I would retention the cable some more.

Look over any maintenance notes they may have and make sureyou add oil and at least water before attempting to start them. Be ready to shut it back down and replace the return fuel hoses. If they hadn't been done recently they will most likely leak. I used 1/8"/3.2mm Gates fuel hose for the small return lines. I bought it at Oreily auto parts. The short hoses have the crimped metal clamping that can be cut away and replaced with 1/4" fuel hose.

You will need some way to load the units for testing and sorting other than your house. One quick and easy solution is to find a cheap or free electric range. They take up considerable space but are pretty much a ready to use load bank. I saw one local to me in the free section on Craigslist the other day.

Use the cheapest oil you can find, and do not use antifreeze. Just water. It's a waste to do it any other way. Then run it a few hours under load if you can. Change oil, filters and put in antifreeze.

We aim to please!!
Right. I don't want to find out I have a leak after I put in expensive fluids. I have not seen it anywhere but do these engines have a problem with cavitation? If so, I will use antifreeze pre-charged with SCA.

As for well nuts, I may want to replace those simply out of good measure. I really don't want to walk into the shop one day and see a few dozen gallons of fuel on the floor.

I have several interested parties for the extra generators. It may turn out to be a profitable venture. I specialize in Diesel engines, so getting those running will be the easy part. The electrical stuff not so much.

I am not aware that these engines have a problem with Cavitation. It could be, but I have never heard of it, nor heard anyone mention it.

The problem with the well nuts is that from outside, you cant tell that there is a problem, other then leaking. What do you do when you have a leak, tighten it. Makes it worse. I suppose that if I bought an older set, that would have to be changed, without thought. If nothing else, it gives you peace of mind. Please do reference DAYBREAKS thread on well nuts. Over tightening is what brings on the problem in the first place.

I read it weeks ago. Good to know about those well nuts. Now I just need a torque wrench that has in/lbs on it.

I need a smaller one anyway. The smallest I have is 3/8" drive. Even on the lowest setting, it wants to apply too much torque.
If anyone finds a torque wrench with in/lbs at a reasonable price please let me know. The cheapest I have ever found is in the $100+ range and I can't justify spending that on a tool that is not used much. Although I have needed it on 3 different occasions so far. I usually hand tight the well nuts, then take a 3/8 drive ratchet and turn it 2 full rotations and that sets the well nut fine.

There may be a tread on this already but I can't find it. Is there some kind of transformer or device I can use that takes 208y and converts it to single phase 120? Both phases would need to be 180 degrees out to make proper 240v. I know I can grab 2 legs off the gen but I only get 2/3 of the power rating. I'm looking to maximize the power output of this generator as best I can.

There is no easy method to convert 3 phase to single. With most mil gens you can use the 3 legs individually to neutral as 120v circuits.

Not an issue with the 803s. Just set it to run at 240 single phase. The unit is rated at 52 amps in 240V 1PH or 34 amps in the 208V 3PH setting.

In the 240V 1PH setting you connect the hot leads to L1 and L3.

I'm renting a trailer this Thursday to pickup my generators. This being my first time at one of these facilities, should I expect helpful staff or just the opposite?

Howdy,
The only advice I can say... Have your paperwork printed out. Have your license, passport etc... ready. Have a good idea of where you are suppose to go for pickup. Make contact with pickup location person and make sure you have a appointment, or time slot, or something from them saying "yes, be here between 8am and 2pm Tuesday for loadout" etc...

Check each unit for matching serial #'s and overall description.

Some pick-up location's are on base, requires gate ID check, vehicle registration and insurance, and a lot of time. Some pick-up locations are across the street (off-site), and things are much quicker.
Some have appointments, some do not.

If you bought them at OKC, which I think is case, you have to make appointment online well in advance and be sure you include all three gens on that pickup or you will not be able to pick up any not listed. Take in paperwork as directed. They will tell you where to pull and will load you out. Easy place to deal with with your initial diligence.

Good info.

I made the appointment online right after I received my paid in full invoice. I have printed out the confirmation and the invoice to bring with me. I did not see an EUC restriction on the items, so I think I am good there. My appointment confirmation states I am picking up 3 pallets aka the 3 generators. I did enter the lot number for each genset when I filled out the appointment.

You will be fine. OKC GL is a huge warehouse on west side of OKC. Your generators could be inside or in their lot to west of building. About halfway down the west side of the warehouse is their door, when you go inside there is a chain link fence that you will follow to the nice ladies that will look your information over and direct you from there. Good luck and if you have any troubles on south I35 in Ok let me know.

Also plan enough time to go thru the uncle sams retail outlet store that is there. You might need to bring a bigger trailer than planned

Thanks for the advice! I will call you if I run into trouble. Hopefully I don't have to reverse the truck with the trailer attached. I'm terrible at controlling a trailer in reverse!

Once all is said and done, I will be sure to post some videos of them.
