M886 Ambulance Heater Question

Hi guys! I have a few questions concerning the fuel fired heater in the rear patient compartment, of the Dodge M886 ambulance:

1. Looking at photos, there is a top flange, and bottom flange where the exhaust pipe goes through the floor. Looks like there is a 3" ring welded to the top flange, to protect the floor from heat. In the center of the top flange, is an exhaust pipe, welded in- is this pipe opened up to receive the heater unit's pipe, in a kind of tight slip fit? (keeping fumes out)

2. The pipe that's welded to the top flange, where it exits the vehicle-- a flex pipe fits over this pipe. Is the flex pipe tack welded on, or clamped?

3. What's everything made of- Stainless, aluminum, or plain steel?

I'm trying to make this system up, any help and knowledge is appreciated! Thanks!

M886 Ambulance heater

Hey chillydog,
Did you get the heater up and running? I have at least one complete unit.........
Hey! Thanks for your reply. I'm very close to getting it working. I picked up a NOS heater from Saturn Surplus, problem was, you also need the install kit to mount it. A local friend has a M892, kind of sad derelict that will never run again, and I got measurements from it. Had to make the mounting legs, and hardest part, ( still working on it) the exhaust pipe and heat shield assembly. You have one? Hmmmm..
Thanks, Paul;
