Which glue is best?

Hi All,

I have recently picked up a newer style rubber/vinyl cargo cover for my M35. It is in overall good shape, however a few of the tie down points have come off. They did not rip off, it looks like the original adhesive just gave it up and they fell off some where. I have picked up some donors, as well as extra cover material for reinforcement, and plan to glue them back in place with some extra overlap for strength.

Question is: what glue/cement to use? A number of threads here have recommended:
-HH-66 vinyl cement
-3M nitrile high performance rubber and gasket adhesive #847
-Pilobond contact cement

Any recommendations on which would be best for the tie downs, which will be under constant strain?
Thanks all.

I have used pliobond and can attest for its quality. BUT! If I were planning on doing tie down points, I think I would look into renting a plastic welder to "melt" the material together. I have a cargo cover that came apart on the way to Haspin this year and I plan onngetting one to put it back together.

The newer tent repair kits (newer tents made of same material) either come with GOOP or shoe goo. Using any of the repair methods including the welder both pieces need to be cleaned with "Scotch" pad a solvent to get a good bond.

Anybody have experience with the harbor freight plastic welding tool? The reviews seem to be a mix of good and bad. I've had mostly success with their tools, and I really only need it to work a few times anyway.

I can't easily find one for rent anywhere, and the "pro" tools seem to be big $$.

Just used Permatex plastic welder glue yesterday from Tractor Supply for the same issue. Seems to have worked well.

i have the older one that uses a air compressor and that one works well for repairing/modifying plastic bumpers, without a blade tip to run between the seems and melt them so the surfaces bond as they come together immediately it may do more hard then good, a propane or map torch and a thick putty knife may work if its only a tab, hole burning potential is high here
