First Badge

It was another great day at the G749 farm with the Pooba himself coming out for Father's day 2017. No one will say who left the hat in his trailer but he wouldn't take it off. The Security animals are still on the job and they hired some kind of short legged dude that probably has an MV named after it.



Goose had it's first decal put on. The Mobile Command badge was given to me by the Reserves so today I watched a Veteran from 743 comms sqd. carefully measure and place it in the spot where it belongs.

The badge is a four-pointed cross symbol designed in 1965 on the creation of Force Mobile Command (FMC), a joint land and air formation; however, this formation has not existed since 1975, when Air Command was formed. Nonetheless, the original badge was retained when the name of FMC changed to Land Force Command. The badge was replaced with a new design in 1998.




Also had the opportunity to pull a compressor and donate it to a new M211 project that is trying to get out of the bush. The compressor is off the British M135 that had something go through the side of the block and left a hole big enough for four tea bags. More on the 211 project once we have good news so grab a cup and pour yourself a tea.

G749 transmission kit

Did anyone keep their inventory list handy for the transmission kit? Trying to assemble a kit out of a few opened ones and memory says there were 3 large crush washers. Memory also says, why did I come in this room, where are my keys, did I leave my jacket at the jobsite, I know I had pants on when I left the house this morning.

I just need to find out if 25 pieces is the magic number in the kit or I could get hit with a rusty stud!

G749 at the Airshow

We had Goose the M135 going 70mph today. She was on the back of the Ironside tilt deck, but it was doing 70.

It's time to pull Goose apart so for one more kick at the can, we're going out with an airshow!

Moving the 67' bus onto the runway with the the 56' Deuce tomorrow so should have some plane deuce bus pic opportunities.

Goose needs transmission maintenance so we're going to a party...first.

I was going to add a big red circle around the P-38 in the top middle of the frame but I 'knife edged' out of it!



We set Goose up at the end of the line and hope to fill the gap with MV's tomorrow. Should be some good pic opportunities if the sky is clear and the smokers blow away.
I think the sun will shine down on us tomorrow.

Edmonton Airshow 2017

Turns out Goose is a girly truck. We sure had some beautiful ladies turn up at the airshow. If they weren't climbing in Goose, they were riding the bus.

The flags were perky all weekend, worse on Friday night and Saturday, calming a tiny bit Sunday. We set up 10'x10' tents Friday, anchoring them to the bus, truck and trailer. Next morning our gear was still up but the winds were pushing hard.
We started setting up the sides, posters, tables......just in time for our Police Helicopter A-Star to land right across the runway from our display. That was hilarious, watching the Exec hang onto the flaps, flies and posters until Air 1 could get wound down. We complied with the wind and FOD rules keeping almost everything put away for the day.

We filled the gap alright! Even had one of our great mentors join us with a staff car and CCKW. Goose was chosen to fly the MVPA flag.

One of our newest members and his Paris' wife are walking encyclopedias. They are also military members and enjoy authentic costumes and teaching military history with some fantastic displays. For most of the day, large crowds would gather around Claude's display and listen to the many stories. When the crowds thinned out, the para-troopers bike went on the prowl.

We were provided a nice piece of lawn, next to the tower, to feed and crash for the night. It got down to 44°F but we had everything we needed to enjoy it. Beautiful sunset, northern lights, a propane heater.

Hanging around the airshow after closing and volunteering to help with tear-down is typically rewarded with fly-byes, wing waves, low passes and lots of hugs.

Gizmo and Goose took the back-roads to Mattechs LZ and it's the first time we had an F-18 chase us out of an airshow. Just a great end to a spectacular weekend.

I just traded my smart phone for the old style flip phone again so I know just how much it sucks using a phone for your first post. Don't worry about it and give it another try!

My previous post would have been a great story if all the pics worked out. I'm just glad I didn't break Steel Soldiers!

Thanks for jumping in with the info trucknut. That bike is a show stopper when Claude does the penguin run to get it started. He'll likely be at the Red Deer show in August next year so book some time!

We found some time to let the trucks out to graze at the G749 farm. They've been penned up all summer so the grass and the trees were taking over.



Also had a cool visitor come to the farm to help knock the weeds down. This Steel Soldier, recently slid left on the map a few provinces and got a job near Edmonton



Since it was grazing day, he let it loose and earned some very impressive cowboy pinstripes. A big thanks goes out to yegspotter and his, at one time, pristine bush eater!

Static Display

Goose had a hundred kids crawl over her on Saturday and a pile of friends showed up for open cockpit days at the Alberta Aviation Museum. Goose staged on Friday and got to hang out in the same area that thousands of WW11 aircraft visited.



Got a few more shots of the imported Austrian G-wagon and the fold down Welsbike. That National Guard truck sure adds to the MV preservation story so a big thanks to all the boys who toughed out the cool weather and hung out for the kids.



The museum has made a ton of changes, the restoration side of the museum is going away so all projects, including the Ventura, are being rolled out the door.



They added some rotating themes and a few more iconic items that tell various stories. It's a great place for kids and history lessons so real worthy of a visit.



This little display got me going! I miss being around the aircraft and this little military version Piper got me thinking about a new toy!

Everyday is a day closer to fixing the transmission.......but she's not done yet. Ironside cuts me a ton of slack with hauling costs so it's been easy, cheap and so cool seeing Goose do 70. I watch your video when I want to go for a long drive in a deuce! Work has been busy so we'll get at her before next year, or the next year.

That's pretty. It looks like fun.

Have you got a pilot's license?

Flying RC aircraft just might require a license some day but we're safe for now. I found a retired guy willing to work on my 9' wingspan supercub RC plane that's been hiding in the garage for 20 years. He was a pilot so when he retired he needed a hobby, filling his garage with detailed scale models he's never flown. He's building my plane, I'm teaching him how to fly with a funky Spectrum buddy box transmitter system.

I still haven't done my research on different paint schemes so need to start looking through photos for a theme aircraft. I'm guessing half our airforce were top wing, tail draggers at one time so maybe I can find a Canadian version that's cool enough to smash into the ground after it's all painted up.
