Last weekend (11/15/2014), Dianna and I were in Lubbock, Texas and took the time to visit the City of Lubbock's SILENT WINGS MUSEUM. The Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of the WWII Glider Pilot Training Program that was located in and around the City of Lubbock.

We found the museum to be a very HIGH QUALITY presentation with outstanding displays and actual artifacts.

The admission was just $5.00 per adult and WELL WORTH the price ! ! !
Even the gift shop items were reasonably priced.

I took over 300 pics... and thought I was going to run out of "film" in the digital camera!!!

About 120 of those photos will be posted here for your viewing pleasure.....

I have a collection of information about WCG-4A because Dad was one of the 7000. What the pilot of the WCG4A said in Saving Private Ryan is worth viewing again. A 270 degree turn to landing at 4 to 1 glide ratio is all there was, and Yes, the G on the silver wings was for guts.
That scene in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN is a fictionalize version of what is factually described in the last paragraph in the placard shown in POST #8. PIC #5 regarding the jeep in the glider that killed a General.

Thanks for sharing those links.

PICTURE POSTING NOTE:
LATE last night, I think the SS Site went down for maintenance or something. I have two more groups of photos to post and will do so as time permits this morning.
Stay tuned.

Carry on.

This is the GATE GUARD at the Lubbock Armory. The overall parcel of land that comprises the airport and museum is also where the Armory is located. If you pass by the terminal gate area and drive the perimeter road, the Armory sits on the corner property where you turn right and then get to the Silent Wings Museum.

I hope that anyone traveling near Lubbock, Texas has an opportunity to experience the Silent Wings Museum. When you do, I'd suggest you allow yourselves at least 3 hours for a fair walk-through and time to read some of the placards and presentations. Probably 5 or 6 hours if you really want to study the hardware and read everything.

This was only about 1/3 of the pictures that Dianna and I took. We applaud the museum's efforts and SALUTE those who flew and maintained the Glider Forces of WWII.

Carry on.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Chaplain!!! One of my favorite memory's of AIT was to escort an older gentleman who was a member of the Glider Corps to the Veterans Day festivities at Ft. Belvoir, Va. I talked to him for hours. Yeah, the G stands for Guts.
