DSC_0244.jpgDSC_0312.jpg inversed the colors but I wanted to look a little different. Also my HOA made me chose the truck or the house.... After some court dates I decided to chose the truck  and got some bigger shoes.20170602_203856.jpgA BIG shout out to gimpy for the help on the tire installation!20170602_203904.jpg

Had a blast at the Haspin Rally! It was too fun and I got the opportunity to see a fraction of what the trucks can do!20170609_195917.jpgIMG-20170610-WA0024.jpgIMG-20171001-WA0001.jpgtapatalk_1497322504796.jpegtapatalk_1497322514060.jpegtapatalk_1497322521329.jpegtapatalk_1506968138781.jpgBTW can you spot the deuce in the previous picture?

Due to the two men crew feature and the swing in mast for convoy drive you have only a tunnel to the passenger side.

Hi Guys!

As always, again only cool vehicles.
It is very difficult to decide. I would give everyone my vote, but unfortunately you only have one vote.
Sorry for the others, but this time HUG BEAST gets my vote.
I have never seen this Chevy, cool box.:)

@maa45069: Thanks for the videos.
I love the turbo whistle (I mean the sound) of the US Army trucks.

Christmas greetings from Germany,

Holgi

I really cant tell you what the grade was but it was steep and my spare rim and tire shifted back going up. It was nothing for the Deuce and I feel confident it can handle mostly anything you can point your tires at as long as you can Man handle the steering wheel:driver:

Little more of BEASTs history

Hi All

When I first got BEAST it was running and drivable so instead of tearing it all apart to “Restore” decided to do what you would call a running restoration. Meaning get it safe to drive, and on the road and enjoy it. Then plan each project so that I could do it before the next time I wanted to drive it.

Brakes were the first step, though it had brakes in that you could step on the pedal and the truck would stop. It turns out only two brake shoes were moving all of the other cylinders were stuck. Finding wheel cylinders was difficult, remember this was 1989 pre-internet. Once I finally figured out that though the truck was built by Chevy the front brakes were FORD.

The engine ran so nice with just a minor tuneup I decided to leave well enough alone. Little did I know that it would be 32 years before I even dropped the oil pan. The truck got regular oil changes and plugs/points every couple years and that was pretty much the only maintenance the engine needed.

In the spring of 1980 BEAST with a fresh coat of paint went off for its first real road drive and an antique car show at the same time.

The center photo was taken at a Dec 7 Commemoration down in Massachusetts back in 1991 when I left the house that morning the outside temperature was down around "0" the HUP like my other CMPs lacks a heater so it was a very cold drive down and back. The flags on the HUP in the photos are a vintage 48 Star US flag and the Canadian Flag of the Second World War.

Even if the FUG can speed up to about 30 miles its a lot safer to trailer or piggyback the FUG in city traffic or highway highspeed traffic.
The rear axel steering in combination with 8.8 tons at "highspeed" brings you the sweat to the brows.

Christmas Card Time

BEAST seems to like the snow or I like driving it in the snow so it has been the subject of a number of Christmas Card photos.

mixed098.jpgmixed100.jpgMV Christmas and Snow Photos(8).jpgMV Christmas and Snow Photos(18).jpgMV Christmas and Snow Photos(9).jpgMV Christmas and Snow Photos(10).jpg

Like many military vehicle BEAST has very good traction with its Non Direction Tires in unplowed snow but once the snow has been plowed it is game over. As you can see from some of the photos it is perfectly happy to plow snow with the front differential pushing snow but once the snow has been plowed you have to put it in 4 wheel drive to back in out of the garage. In 2 wheel drive once the rear tires hit the plowed snow they start spinning in place unable to drag the front wheels until you put it in 4 wheel.

Cheers Phil
