New brake shoes dragging

The cams swing fine. It looks like if both the holes for the guide pins were just a little deeper that the shoes would fit right. To the eye the shoes look like they're identically the same as the old shoes, but maybe there's a minute difference.
It might be a problem I'll tinker with at a later time. I have the old shoes and new ones that I haven't used, I'll do a more detail analysis and see if that sheds any light.

I know ! I'm really working hard on it ! My steering gear is almost ready from the machine shop. They have had it for 5 months now, but I've pestered the owner enough that he is finally getting on it. Once that is finished and the power steering is in I'll do the brakes and then we should be ready to go ! As of this moment the summer of 2019 will be the date. Several others have mentioned they might want to come along then too. The more the merrier I say ! Also the safer and easier it would be with others along in case of problems with breakdowns.

You didn’t mention when you installed the new shoes were they new or relined. Sometimes relined shoes don’t line up correctly. What happen is the metal of the shoe straightens out. Instead of being circular it looks more like a banana, that is an exaggeration, but one gets the idea. When that happened, we would just stand the shoe up in a press and push the ends together. It doesn’t take much to have it not fit or make it right. The oil leaking makes me wonder if the shop you used installed the cork in the keyway during reassembly.

On the other hand...there are 2 rallies every year that involve the Alcan (winter and summer) time it right and join one
I laid one of the old shoes on top of one of the old ones and they appear to line up exactly, at least to the naked eye.
I'll try and post some pics later this week.
Oddly enough the shop did install cork, I had used RTV. The oil leak was from the inner seal and the adjusting nuts were only hand tightened which we think caused the leak by being too loose. The shop apparently didn't have the proper tools to fit the adjusting nuts as I found a pretty good gouge in one that was probably caused when removed it probably with a chisel. Before we put the hub back together we had to re-grease the bearings and re-grease the hub.

Exactly! I have restored/relined dozens of old, beaten shoes (had to...); some needed that treatment. It's soft steel, no big issue.

On my RR tandem I had to grind out the mounting and pivot holes just a bit to get it all to work right. Holes and slots just to much paint or metal by less than .015" but it matters.
After that I always tested them before re-landing the drum.

Registration is a little steep however...$3k.
The deuce might do well in it's class as there won't be that much competition in the Historical class.
