This may have been discussed previously but I couldn't find any relative threads.

I am exploring the possibility of adding the factory fuel tank to the passenger side of the frame of my M1028, but am perplexed regarding a source for the factory fuel door assembly. Can the M1009 fuel door assembly be retrofitted into the right bed fender, and will it match?

I guess most here are the DIY type, but for those interested, it looks like LMC has complete bed side panels with the fuel door hole.

Yes I knew that. Thanks for posting. But to replace the entire bed side panel is a much bigger project. And from my experience the body panels from LMC are not the same quality as original GM steel. I would rather keep my original CUCV bed, which is still in new condition, intact and have my expert body shop retrofit an original M1009 fuel door into the passenger side panel.

Since we are on the subject, I plan to place a center tank on my M1028 to replace the saddle tank. I want to move the fuel door from the front left side of the bed to the rear right side of the bed. Has anyone ever done this? I came across people using filler necks inside the beds, but I do not want that. Would be nice to see examples, maybe even a good write-up and get to know the ups and downs I might come across. I do have a donor M1009 to take parts from.
