New Technology/Teaching these “Old Dogs” some new tricks

Ok, the short version is... I’m going to be doing some rebuilding of a few control boxes on my truck and thought I’d see if there was any interest. Main power control box and the CTIS control boxes will be the main two that I’ll want to “adjust”.

For the main control box I’ll be gutting, and rebuilding with newer equipment, as well as adding a microcomputer for future upgrades that I or anyone else wants to do. One of those upgrades will be a GPS speedometer, as well as support for a digital dash. I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t care for having to look at the middle of the dash just to see my speed, or anything else that is important.

For the CTIS box, that will most likely be a complete gut and rebuild from scratch, but still using the peripheral equipment. Same concept, microcomputer, but this time you can preprogram it for separate air pressures for the front vs rear, but it’ll still be in the same box that it currently is so you can keep that “stock look” if you want.

If anyone is interested in something like this then let me know, otherwise I’ll just build these for me only. I am looking for a used/broken main control box to at least build that since I’m not 100% sure mine has failed.

I’ll probably sell them since a lot of time will probably go into debugging the coding for the computers and most people will find it daunting, or give up half way through it. I’ll have to make special adapters to be able to plug in a computer for future upgrades after the original install since I don’t think I’ll be able to make it Bluetooth or WiFi and still keep it waterproof since I’d rather keep everything in a box that is already original to our trucks. But who knows, I might just make a separate box for that. I am in the middle of my engine rebuild, but unless I luck out I’ll have to build at least the main control box for mine since I’m 99% sure burnt out from a voltage spike.

I’ll keep everyone posted as I go along.

What are you planning on using for the microcomputer/microcontroller?
The CTIS box is already a micro controller, just ancient tech compared to what we have now. Besides, at least this way I can change the preset pressures to what I want on my truck, and have a place to make adjustments to the presets if ever needed.

The main control box, I’ll use it to avoid direct wiring of relays so that there hopefully isn’t anymore issues caused by a failing/failed voltage regulator on the generator. Of course that means I’ll be using a robust voltage regulator to protect the micro, but I’d have to do that anyways since our main voltage is 24VDC.

Are you planning on offering a modified PCU also to give you the split pressures on the axles?
Yes, as well as changing the presets to what you want them to be. It would still have the different settings, just with presets that you set if you don’t want the factory settings, as well as split settings front and rear.
