The push rod is there, I just removed it for the pick. But the puuer part of the push rod is worn considerably. I wonder if these are standard units or specific to this machine?

Got to find one though. I found a new rocker arm for about $12 compared to the $196 that GMG wants.n And lets not forget that $40 pushrod.

Sent a PM to a member for a rocker arm and push rod but I am in the market for both pieces.

yea you will find some just let the folks here know what you need. also you might want to check the height of that valve stem compared to the others. it could be that your piston hit that valve and broke the rocker instead of bending the rod. also could have just been adjusted wrong.

That is whay I am debating taking off the head. I've got the gasket set and it would give me a chance to verify the everything is OK. If I can find a proper adapter, I can use my compression gauge to answer all these questions.... A simple compression test will tell me if I need to remove the head or not. I can check the rings, valves for sealing, and pistons.

Whoaaaaa! I can't believe it was running. Push rod part number is 186-6098 and they are expensive. I think the lowest price I every found was $35 but I can't find any cheaper than $50. I've had units with the rocker arm stud broke off but never seen the actual rocker broken in half. The original rebuilder should have noticed a difference in the sound of the motor and knew something more was wrong.

I just spoke with a guy that said he had tons of used push rods and is selling new rocker arms for $12. Hopefully I can get the push rod for about $3.....

Still looking for any from members willing to part with them.

i wouldn't be in any hurry just yet to pull the head. first before you reinstall the injectors get the valve train repaired and adjusted then gently roll it over by hand and watch the valve to make sure it isn't sticking or hitting anything. if everything is ok then proceed to reassemble ant then crank it without starting it. then if everything seems ok start it and go from there. i would bet everything will be ok.

Probably. The push rod is fine. Just a little buffed around where the rocker arm was kind of holding it in place. There is really no other damage than consmetic to the push rod.

That would certainly explain the problem. Glad you found it and with luck a couple of parts will make it right as rain.

i see cracks in one end. i wouldn't reuse it. i would use it to see if the lifter is locked? can you remove the lifter without removing the head? with a magnet on a stick?

I'm not sure this is the total issue. I am not even sure as to whether this is a new problem or not. Only time will tell.
If I were to bet on when.. I bet it was an error upon assembly. The scenario would be that the valves were tightened down and the unit started without giving the minimum wait time for the lifters to bleed down.

OR.. You have a bad lifter.
