Where to find Allison transmission specialist?

My truck still shifts really hard, and I'd like to have it checked out by an Allison transmission specialist. When you guys post about taking your trucks to one, who are you really going to? How do I find a expert, or certified specialist (if that's a thing)?

You can go on the website and there’s a service locator. You can also call them and they will tell you the closest one. There’s different level shops also. Some shops are certified maintenance level shops and the others are full rebuild shops. For the most part either one should be able to diag what you have going on though.

My buddy has a few Allison transmissions new (or possibly reconditioned) still in the crate he bought from Military Auctions, not sure if they are the same as what you need tho, he says they are a three speed transmission .

I would imagine he would sell them quite reasonable ? not sure how to tell if they are what you need/want ...

Awesomeness, I agree with redman333's suggestion. I needed transmission help during our recovery trip last year - found the nearest Allison dealer through their web site. Excellent service, definitely know their stuff. I would expect they could diagnose your shifting issue.

Probably from the 1st and 2nd your hard shifting ???
Mine is doing the same, but when you are at about 1600RPM, get the throttle pedal to the floor and then it shifts smooth.
But I need to go to a shop to see also

If it’s a new transmission it has to learn the shift schedules. How many miles have you gone with the new trans in. Also is it a brand new trans, reman or rebuilt?

I called the nearest one, and they said their shop rate was $175/hr. Sound right?

In CO yeah sounds about right but you can shop around. I know our shop is $135 but we are in a smaller area so we can’t charge that much.

It has about 2000 miles on it now. I've done the thing where you put it in learning mode and drive it around so it can learn. It's not displaying any error codes. It just jerks really hard, especially on the downshifts (it's difficult to describe how hard, but it's hard enough that it will shift items in the bed, chirp the tires a little, and gives you a jerk).

Sounds like the trans fluid pressure is set too high. There should be some type of adjustment for that. Either mechanical like on the older allisons or something thats done thru programming.

Yours Is a defunct modulator cable on your 923. Adjust it and see if it gets better. Or replace it with a better quality one. Part number is in the 5 ton spreadsheet

I would say every LMTV I've driven has shifted "hard" however the term hard is relative. They certainly don't shift as smooth as a Cadillac.

While we are the transmission subject, I am installing a exhaust brake on my 94 M1079 and looking at the Pac Brake instructions, what model Allison is in my truck? Or How do I find out?
