With just the in tank fuel pump running ( motor not running ) the fuel is always returning to the tank after it goes through the injection pump. With motor running same thing it is a circulatory system. So she will fire up on starting fluid but not stay running. You could try and look over the trouble shooting manual but as long as we have fuel flowing through the head / IP they should start and at least idle. Most problems we see here are problems with something wrong in the Head unit not the whole injection pump. You could start with the easy check of the fuel control unit assembly that is under the shut down cover. If the truck has been shut down and left correctly with the shut down cable pulled out and the fuel control unit assembly is getting sticky or stuck it will not run / start.

Thanks for the reply. I will check that when it warms up a little it's -3 this morning. The previous owner said last time he ran it it would only idle. Could it possibly be stuck part way

Deuce wont start without ether
Hi all. hopefully someone will help... had my M35 for 18 months, always started and ran well, no problems. renewed the filters just after i got it, i did use some WVO about a year ago, but recently have been running a 50/50 mix of diesel and kerosene, still it ran fine. truck has sat all...

Deuce (Multifuel) just won't start
I've got a LDT-465-1D motor. I've replaced all filters & fluids, then decided to replace all fuel lines since a couple of the nylon ones were cracked. I've drained my fuel tank, cleaned & flushed it, cleaned the in-tank lift pump & replaced the rubber fuel hose on it with a brand-new one...

Deuce hard start
All, please forgive if this has been answered but I'm loosing my mind. I have a 1967 M109, just finished the bob and spent a week fabbing the rear suspension and bed hardware and my issue is it will not start or stay running for the first 5 min without starting fluid sprayed into the intake...

Guess if the fuel control unit assembly is moving free and springing back from the seven oclock position to about the four oclock then next step. Guess smart thing would be to check delivery valve by removing it and cleaning out the port of any crud that might be stopping it from closing. Then If delivery is ok then guess you are looking at the Head removal and checking for dropped button, broken plunger spring or broken plunger guide.
