Took the new Deuce on a nice slow Sunday drive today. It met the approval of my wife and kids, with a big thumbs up from my 6 year old son. 20200307_144023.jpg I found a loose (burned) wire on the generator and reattached it. Strangely the voltmeter never left the green. I will have to investigate further. So far, I am very happy with my big green machine.

M35, when you get the family involved it becomes a family affair. My wife got involved when I got my Deuce 13 years ago, and now she is my navigator. She spent a lot of time driving with me, so I installed a drivers spring seat in place of the passenger side bench seat. More comfortable. :love:

M35, when you get the family involved it becomes a family affair. My wife got involved when I got my Deuce 13 years ago, and now she is my navigator. She spent a lot of time driving with me, so I installed a drivers spring seat in place of the passenger side bench seat. More comfortable. :love:
Fortunately for me, a previous owner already installed a spring seat on the passenger side of mine. It is more comfortable but limits the number of passengers to one. I want to come up with a middle seat somehow, perhaps a jump seat of some kind. Having spousal approval makes a huge difference.

My spouse, too, gets to ride in spring seat supported bliss. I have an air ride seat (Shhhhhh! Quiet!).

I am also working on spousal support to grow the truck family, but she is not as enthusiastic as I would like. Maybe renovating the bathroom will help.

Along with all the "welcome to this site posts" here is one you can take to heart. Don't make a move without the pubs: operators manual, organizational maintenance manual and parts book, and lubrication order. For a M 35A2 this would be TM 9-2320-209- 10, 20, 20P and LO respectfully. They are can found on this site, on Jatonka's website, and in paper and swap meets. For a truck without a winch there are about 39 grease points, 4 on the handbrake alone. Neglect them at your own peril. grease is cheap. Parts cost money. Be guided accordingly. Air is freed tires are not. Don't forget to check the pressure on the INSIDE duel wheels. And then there are the oil can points: throttle linkage, door latches, hinges and such. Do you know how to operate a military light switch ? -10 manual will explain it. A word to the informed is do not let the truck stand any significant period of time with the battery switch on and the engine not running. There is an electric fuel transfer pump in the fuel tank that will eventually fill the engine up with fuel if it is left running when the engine is not. You also have to remember to turn the light switch off when done is its circuit does not pass through the battery switch. Make sure you understand the difference from "off" and B.O. Marker" positions unless you are entered in a battery endurance test. There are all kinds of people on this site who have ideas on how to modify these trucks, usually to make them go faster. Be advised the whole vehicle was designed as an integrated system and it resists change, especially ones that do not increase durability or endurance.

I appreciate the good advice, and I will take it to heart. Part of my duties at work include maintenance and repair of a fleet of bucket/digger trucks for a power company. I'm no stranger to grease. I hope to have my Deuce for a very long time, and I plan to keep it as original as possible. I am open to advice from anyone here that wants to share it. I've been reading posts on here for about a year and I've seen a lot of wisdom (also some good humor). I downloaded the TMs and operators manual and I have the -10 on paper, but it's nice to know that yall are here in case i get stumped. Thanks.

Lubrication of the steering: upper and lower king pins, tie rod, and drag link is the key to survival with a M35 unless you want to throw down and get aftermarket power steering for yours. There are 4 drive shafts. The one that usually causes the most trouble with loose flange bolts and u-joint failures is the one between the transmission and the transfer case. Put both boxes in neutral and you can rotate the shaft to find the grease fittings. There are 5 associated with the clutch/brake linkage and 4 on the handbrake. The LO will reveal where they live.
