M927 no start

The truck has sat about 3 years, (Nhc250 , started right up) needing a water pump. Put the new water pump on all was good. While sitting idling it started acting like it was running out of fuel, plenty of fuel in the tank. Replaced the fuel filter and primed ,took it a while to start, it has gotten harder and harder to start. Today I ran a line to a clean jug of fuel, primed with hand pump, ran the screw on he FSOV in, still will not start. Does this sound like the PT pump went south?

Remove the line from the top of the shut off valve. See if you have fuel coming out when you spin it over. This will allow you to check the shut off valve .movement in case the butterfly stripped. It will also show if there is any fuel pressure going to the injectors

Pulled the line at the fuel shut off , fuel is flowing. Also pulled the return line going to the tank , it had a small steady flow while cranking. It is trying to start, just will not do it. I am also getting white smoke while cranking. I guess I'll need to find a pressure gauge to see what psi the PT pump is putting out?

Did you give it a little shot ether to help her?

Pt doesn't put out any pressure at idle. It doesn't read on a gauge with the throttle shut

Does the IP show any type of wetness like at the throttle shift? Or dumping any fuel into the oil? This happens with a bad front pump seal. It sends fuel into then engine rather than the full flow to the injectors.

Shaft is dry, oil level is normal, no fuel smell in the oil. Will a PT pump from a m809 series nhc250 swap? To rule in or out that it is the pump.

Swapped the PT pump from the M931a1 (runs great) on to the M927 and primed it , no joy . Same thing will on start on starting fluid then die after the short shot. So school me on the fuel system where it goes into the head, I can't believe that all six injectors went out at the same time. What increases the psi to the injectors? Any common fuel failures in the Head? So after doing more reading I think the injectors are clogged . Anyone know of good pricing on p/n 3046281 injectors?

Crimp off the return line and see if it tries to start. It is a possibility that the screens on the injectors are plugged from sitting.

It tried to start with the return line clamped off, but would not. I did find the problem, clogged injectors, makes sense how all went bad at once.IMG_4966.jpgIMG_4967.jpg

I can't tell, rust or algae? Whatever, if the injectors are like that, there is a very good possibility that the pump internals are too. When you put a new FF in it, what did it look like?

The fuel filter and the housing had rust inside , I had put I believe power service diesel clean in it after the filter change. Fuel now has a green tint to it but clean. No algae at all, that stuff sucks, had that problem with a 3406E one time from bad fuel. Fuel coming out of the pump past the FSOV looks good to the naked eye.

Best you can do is give it a try. If the pump f's up, you'll know why.

So I got rebuilt injectors from Premco, thanks Wes! Now my question doing IBC (Top stop injectors) do I bottom out the injector plus 15* to push the oil out or only set it at 6 in pds? from the TM
Turn adjusting screw (2) down until top of plunger (4) contacts cup (5). Advance adjusting screw (2) 15 degrees to squeeze oil from cup (5). Back adjusting screw (2) out one full turn. Ensure spring retainer (8) is against adjusting screw (6) of injector (7)

or is it

NOTE Perform step 6 for top-stop injectors. Tighten adjusting screw (2) 5-6 lb-in. (0.6-0.7 N-m). Tighten locknut (3) 40-45 lb-ft (54-61 N•m ?
It will be a couple of weeks before I'm back home to get it done, just don't want to Fubar the new injectors.

Also I used a puller to take out #4 injector, what will be the trick to getting #6 out? I did read in the TM about using the cab jack screws to raise it 4-5" to remove the rear valve cover.

It will come out with the cab jacks up. I just use a screwdriver to pry them up and out in hard to work areas.

Should bottom the injector out to get the fuel out if any. Release all the way then set to 6in lbs

No, that's wrong. Set to 6 in lb and lock it down. No 15 extra degrees, no bottom the plunger. Set it at 6 in lb and run it. Injector on 3, valves on 5 when at A on the pulley.
