Does anybody know the weight of the box on the M1079?

Around 4000lb.

Tm list the m1079 at 18,834 and the m1080 at 14,861. Fair guess is to subtract one from the other

Wouldn't gross weight be the max load allowed to carry, not the empty box weight?

Technically it's 2.5 ton carrying capacity, so it's pretty much over capacity even when it's empty.

This is why practically every EU adventure truck builder uses 6x6 with higher capacity.

isn't this why the M1079 has wider springs in the rear spring pack?

It weighs a little under 4000lbs. Be the 1079 TM weight minus the weight or a chassis truck and equals the weight of the box.

A M934 box with expandable sides weighs close to 10k. And m1079 box is not near that weight empty.

That's what the specs on the web say. I kind of chuckled when I saw the placard on my M1079 box. No idea how that was calculated.
