OK it took me the entire day to get it done but I was able to make a safe haven for my M1009 build. Still Beware. Lost for Words and First in Line are creeping on us all. I seen he had activity yesterday. I am no CSI technician as far as computers but I can see when he is on line. When I went out to my garage it was full blown mess. Rebuilding and painting my barn project had taken over the empty bay. P1000274.JPG After sorting, burning and cleaning up things I was ready to put Built in a Barn 1 back in the bay. I still have room to work on my barn painting and repair project. The bay is clean and dry. P1000275.JPGP1000276.JPG Now Built in a Barn 1 has a safe haven to stay out of the rain and sun till other plans can be made. I was going to wash it but figured why introduce water to it to stay dry. And it will get dusty in here anyway. Dust protects against moisture. P1000279.JPGP1000278.JPGP1000280.JPGP1000281.JPG And every thing is accessible. Thank you for the support. Take Care and Be Safe.

Rick,
Now that you may have your latest build for a while you should rename it with something catchy like you did with Easter Find.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked of course is too long. Built in a Barn 1 is is good but still too long. How about just Barn Built 2 because Easter Find was Barn Built 1

Been so many I lost track. I started redoing CUCV's back in 1995 and have been doing it ever since. I also built a members M1009 SSDV I believe is his user name. Thank you for the support. I have 2 more to go. I am still pondering NOT to make the convertible. It would be like hacking up a 1969 Z/28. It has value being what it was from new after that it would just be a hacked up M1009 to many. I want it to retain value and not just be another hacked up CUCV. There are lots of them out there. I don't want to add to that lot. Thank you for your positive encouragement. take Care and Be Safe.

Yup, Rick did my current M1009 and, unlike my first M1009 purchase (not from Rick), I couldn't be happier with Rick's work. I picked my truck up right after I got back from the sandbox in 2016 and I have driving and towing with her ever since. She runs like a top, hasn't really skipped a beat and is still looking great.

Rick, if I could afford it, I would love to buy the current project from you in a heartbeat. Just for grins, if you want to PM me a price, I can see what I may able to do. One never knows.

Today was a busy day thus far. I was out working on my barn and a friend that does windshield installations stopped by and installed an inside rear view mirror on my M1009. I know the glue he uses is 10X better than the glue kit you can buy. I never had a mirror fall off a windshield after he installed one even in Off Road use vehicles. I was at the scrap yard last week and I removed a few rear view mirrors from vehicles going into the crusher. They break the glass coming off on the factory adhesive. DSCF7505.JPGNo mirror. DSCF7506.JPGWith mirror. The M1009 is getting a bit dusty from all the work I am doing on the outside of the barn. Running a wire wheel and sander on the outside metal roof is vibrating the dust loose. DSCF7507.JPGBut being inside out of the sun and rain makes a happy CUCV. DSCF7508.JPGEspecially this one that sat out in the elements for 10 years. All is well here. I hope everyone is Safe and Take Care. Back to the paint brush. I brush paint my buildings because that always gets the best results with the least amount of expense and clean up.

After winding another 100 miles in road testing all is well. 1 exception is the volt meter has a mind of it's own. It worked fine till last night I stopped and went in a store. Came out and started the truck and no voltmeter. The 10 amp fuse is good because if that is blown the Gen 2 light will not work with key on. I tapped the gauge and nothing. it drives and charges just fine. This is 100% stock wiring. No bypass, no cascading glow plugs or starter relay mods. I will remove the bezel and replace the gauge if the need arises. Anybody have any other clues as to what could just out of the blue cause the gauge to be inoperative? 36 years and setting for 10 years could be the issue. Take Care, Be Safe and have a Great Day. No Worries in this camp. It's a Simple Task.
Last night in the sweltering heat I figured I would subject myself to some mental and phycological abuse. I removed the instrument cluster cover and replaced the volt meter with another used one. I did however have no issues with the assembly or disassembly. It was a happy time. I also figured out that I have 3 bad voltmeters and everyone has the same issue. The ceramic resistor is burnt out. Anybody know where I can get a resistor top replace them? I read a thread that said a 300 ohm would do the trick. I think I am going to give that a try. I am lost when it comes to electricity. I may give Leidy a call today. http://leidyrepair.com/ He rebuilds my starters and alternators for me. Fact is he can rebuild just about anything and is one of the few remaining businesses that I still trust to do the job right. He pressed spindle bearings onto my Honda lawn tractor when the Honda dealer told me the parts were discontinued. That was 15 years ago. I learned a lot about bearings since then. Most bearings are inexpensive and simple to replace. Be Safe and Good Luck on your project. Blurry picture of finished operational voltmeter. But you get the picture. All is well.

300 ohms sounds about right. I want to say I made up a 180 ohm resistor to get my volt gauge working correctly after a 12 volt conversion. If anyone has a good gauge handy they could pull the resistor off and measure it. Make sure to measure it with just the resistor and not still connected to the gauge. If I get back into my dash before you get an answer I'll measure mine on the truck that is still 24v.

If everything goes as scheduled the M1009 will begin it's journey to Germany. I pulled it out of the barn and did a 100% look around on it. I made sure all the loose items were secured inside the vehicle. This is the last night it will spend here in the barn if all works as planned. Been here a long time. I acquired it in November 1996. Been a long ride. I think the 1987 steel GI fuel can looks good in the holder. I always had a plastic one in that holder. Everything is ready to go. I wish the new owner much happiness and joy with his new CUCV M1009. It sure has come a long way. This is how I started out in November 2017
DSCF7537.JPGDSCF7538.JPGDSCF7539.JPGDSCF7540.JPG This is how it looks today. It was a long and happy transformation thru thick and thin. Not everything went as planned. I planned the work and worked the plan. I did hit a few speed bumps along the way but still managed to maintain my course and keep the plan in alignment. I am 100% happy with the finished product and hope the new buyer is just as happy. I will let him announce himself in his own time. I hope the trip is kind to this classic survivor. It was to "Hell and Back" No body but me would have ever fixed it.

SSDVC you did get part of this truck. I gave you the spare tire and wheel out of it a few years back. Remember the story? It had the old Goodyear Wrangler AT tires on it when I bought it. I always buy Goodyear tires and when I took it in for replacement tires it had like 5K miles on it and the dealer gave me 5 new tires for some silly price of $250. because the tire DOT numbers were on a recall list for side wall separation. Even with 3300 miles on it when I bought it the NMNG had put 5 new tires on it. I had 1 left front tire blow out on I 81 at 70 mph and I wanted a matching tire. When I went in to pick it up he said I had the last 5 Goodyear Wrangler AT's he could find. The next week I bought 6 tires for another M1009and they were Goodyear Wrangler ATS. They don't make that tire anymore. Now it is Goodyear Wrangler Duratrak or Goodyear Wrangler MTR Kevlar. IMHO the Goodyear Wrangler MTR Kevlar make the M1009 look the best. And with new stock leaf springs at each corner it sits nice and stout. I have a 3rd M1009 unspoken for at the moment. I wanted to make a full convertible out of it but am still debating it. I want these full convertible parts put to use. Not wasted in the scrap yard somewhere. Take Care. Thank you for the support.

....... I'm the lucky one. Until 4 weeks ago I was still the lucky owner of a good M1008 .....somehow everything went by itself ........ and then I suddenly had an M1009.
Sometimes it makes sense to exchange something good for something better.

I don't need a workhorse ......... it should take me to nice places on nice days....... after Rick invested so much in the truck, and I don't just mean money now, the car and Rick deserve it.
.......... I hope that everything goes well on the transport and I can't wait to finally see the car in real......
