M125-A1 Cargo Truck Cummins V8 300 Powered

Hello... look's like I'm back in the 10 Ton hobby. Back in January while surfing around on ebay I came across an M125 10 ton and as I was looking at the picture's I realized it had the Cummins V8 300 in it and I immediately recalled an article that was written by David Doyle back in 2006 in Army Motors magazine vol#117 titled The Mighty Mack. In the article David tell's about one of the M125's that was converted to the Cummins V8 300 by the army in the early 60's...this is the information David had at the time, but after talking with David a couple of day's ago and the Mack Museum today this truck was actually built by Mack at the Allendale plant delivery date 2\12\58...I am awaiting conformation from the Mack museum on this being that truck with the vin\frame# M125-1419 and the Army registration\hood# 5B1345 The truck was owned by a huge power line company out of Texas, I spoke with there fleet manager he told me they purchased the truck back when it was first released from the army and have owned ever since but has not been used for at least the past 10 or 12 yrs he said and is why they auctioned it off. It does run and drive but does need plenty of TLC!! Very Cool if you ask me..... I will post some pic's soon, I just got a new desk top and have not downloaded any picture's as of yet.

Sweet! So is this the only M125 with the V8-300? I've heard of M123s with this engine.

After removing all the steal I eased down to the nearest fuel pump for some fresh petro....I still had several rattle can's of various shade's of paint from Rapco so I used it up hiding as much white as I could until I can get set up to paint the whole truck.

This is how it showed up...the structure that was built on the truck in the pic was for carrying huge power pole's. I was very pleased to see when it got here they really took the time and fabricated plate's and the whole structure was bolted on NOT WELDED!!!! all of which has been removed.
Long ago I worked for a company that used MV's almost exclusively. They were a power line contractor and had close to a hundred Deuces (REO's and Internationals) that had special narrowed cabs. Cab was wide enough for two on a narrow bench seat. There was a rack out front and a flat bed behind the cab. Most of them had a Hiab 173, a few with a Hiab 950 and about 25 of them had a Gin Pole setup.

I had the pleasure? of driving one of them with two 95 foot poles strapped to it. That took lots of PRE-THINKING. Not hard to find yourself in a bad spot with a left or right turn... I have old Kodak Instamatic pictures of a lot of those trucks. Need to quit talking about it - and scan some pictures to post!

(EDIT) I started posting pictures. Hoping to post more soon...

Truck looks really straight- very nice!
As far as being complete goes, is it missing anything?

Pic off the roof of my house, suck's not having the shop I used to have, but I have a plan and will make this work. First thing I've done is build the 8' tall fence ...concrete and pole barn still to come. The M123 in the picture I just bought from a local guy here in Jacksonville, engine stuck...bought it mainly for the part's value as these truck's are not found in your local junkyard's.

David, I've been wondering when you were going to start a thread on your M125. That is great truck. Are you saying you think Mack installed the V8-300 in '58 ? Or was it converted later ?

I hope to get back to work on the M123A1C this fall.
It was 100% done by Mack on the assembly line... Delivery date 2\12\58.... David Doyle and the Mack Museum curator Doug Maney both confirmed this and have picture's of the truck on the assembly line while it was being built.

Wow! That’s awesome! There’s 2 M123A1C’s in CA the owner wants $3500 for both. Incomplete engines, no radiators, but a lot is still there including tires, axles, rear winches, cabs. Wish I had the room.

That's great David, you truly have a one of a kind ! Are they sending you copies of the photos ?
