Hub flip or wider stance

PO of my deuce singled it out with 11.00 g177’s. He didn’t flip the hubs just ran the rears with the dish pointed in. What’s the downside to the rear not tracking the same as the front? I like the wider stance in the rear. Does it hurt anything to run it like that? Or is there a way to make the front have a wider stance to match the rear? I searched and only found info on extra bearing stress of not being flipped.

If you use one of the budd rims, the center of your tire is not centered with the bearings with dish out. The narrow stance looks odd and would not seem very stable.

My suggestion is to run the 11.00 as duals, not singles.

In theory, it'll stress the bearings. In reality, the bearings will probably be fine unless you put a lot of miles on it loaded beyond the rated capacity.

As for the front tracking differently than the rear, it makes a difference offroading when you have to create more than one path for your tires. Again, not really an issue except at the limits of the performance envelope. HEMTT rims on 939series 5tons does the same thing (front tracks differently) and it has not been an issue for me. (My M925 wears hemtt rims and 16.00s)

Flip 'em. You won't regret it. Run the singles as on the M34.

They did use different wheels all around, with the center pushed in a couple inches. Not too hard to find.

Pushing all those studs out & back in will be a chore. A press is a handy thing. Good excuse to repack your wheel bearings, too.

You may be referring to the wheels used on the M34; M47; V17A & V18A trucks? All those came with single 11.00-20 tires/wheels from factory.

The difference in the wheel design (M34 vs. M35) can be seen in this post...

Flip them. You will not regret it. Here is my M35A3 that I have owned for the last twelve years. I replaced the originals with these Firestone 831, 11x20s. The rears line up under the cargo bed and steering improved significantly.

Yours might be the first I’ve seen of someone going from singles to duals on an A3. Not that that’s saying much. Why the switch?

This truck gets at least weekly use on the farm. The photo is from the end of a day of harvesting barley in May 2015. The tires were new that spring. Since 2009, the truck had run the 395/85R/20 singles with the tire inflation system that came with it. New replacement tires were about $1,500 each at the time without many of the bells and whistles. Plus, the inflation system maintenance was time consuming. My job is farming not truck maintence and I do not have a bunch of PFCs doing the required maintenance. I ran a deuce on 1200x20's and it both steered and drove way better.
Hubs flipped, but on home made adapter plates to 'RUN' the wheels in line at the outer positions. (Wider stance).
I Split the rims and added sections in on my M54 A2 camper as well.
I so like ALL the wheels to 'run in line' at an outer stance.
