ECV Hood Advantages ?

Are there advantages to the ECV hood?

I'm not understanding the differences or why the change was made?

It looks like the front grill/headlights is on a separate bracket attached to frame with the hood clamshell separate.

I like the look of it but wondering advantages or even possible disadvantages and why it was built that way.

I've been refurbing M1152A1 ECV for the past 6 months. When I first got it the hood did not sit right and was misaligned. I was able to adjust it with the hood adjustment screws. It can be moved front to back and right to left. Not sure if thats what you were looking for.

the newer design is not for looks, it’s there because everything is longer.

Longer radiator and cooler. The cooler can even be pivoted up and propped in place to service the radiator separately.

The cutaway hood is less rigid and the flex when opening makes the passenger side hood stop catch in the air cleaner cover and cave it in. You can niggle with the adjustment to find the sweet spot where it will open with one person and not catch the air cleaner or rub the paint off the side of the grille.

I have never had an issue with my extended nose hood. As with any hood, lift from the driver side and push in a bit to keep the other side off the air filter can.

not sure if they fit the ecv hood but there are military stiffening panels, i bought for my 998 hood, waiting for warm weather because I removed the bad 3m tape and will panel bond them plus the included pop rivets

Yeah, once I experienced the opening characteristics of the cutaway hood, those stiffeners made more sense.
I dont have any of those panels to try out and see if they fit, though.

The cut out grille makes the hood just a bit more awkward to open.

New rubbers in the airlift holes help as the old baked ones tend to lock the far side down making the flex worse
