I have original X doors on an M998. Currently well aligned to the striker pin and operating well.

Looking to adjust the door to sill and B pillar gap as a few doors are misaligned. What’s the fitment guidance for gap to sill and B pillar? Eg 1/4”-1/8” etc?

What I did first was remove the door. Loosen the body hinge bolts. Use a straight edge to keep the hinges in line and tighten bolts. Loosen door hinge bolts. Have someone help you and install the door. Lift back of door up and close all the way on the striker. If the back of the door is too low, raise the striker. Once you get the striker where you want it, lift rear of closed door up slightly and stick something on top of the striker. Let go of door. Tighten all of the door hinge bolts. Open and close door to verify it hits both latching points. You may need to add shims behind the door latch to make it "not so tight".
The reason for the straight edge on the body hinges is to make install and removal of the door easier. On any given factory x-door, the top and bottom hinge are different. The lower hinge has a slightly longer pin. When you install the door, just get the bottom pin started in the hole. Then tilt door up and line up the top hole and drop it in.
Don't forget to hook up the retaining strap, or you will eventually have a door swing open and hit your mirrors. Properly adjusted mirrors will not get hit by a door with strap installed.
Adjust the door so the seal seats all the way around. If it catches the door jamb. move it the other way. If you can see light through a gap from inside, move it that way.
