MANUAL TRANSMISSION ON A 6.2 DIESEL

Transmission has been Marined. I have a couple GM manual tranies from some parted 90s Camaro V8s in the back of the shed. Anybody know if it is possible to swap transmissions from a Gas 350/454 in lieu of the burned out trany that came with the Detroit 6.2?

Apologies if this is an elementary question. Not a mechanic.

Camaro is a 2 wheel drive car obviously, so any of those transmissions will not have a tail housing that will bolt up to your transfer case so you would have to convert to a divorced transfer case setup. You would be better off finding an SM465 (4 speed with direct 4th gear) or NV4500 (5 speed with OD) and swapping that in if you really want a manual, or just rebuilding the TH400. Other options include a 700R4 or 4l80e with their own pros and cons.

If you use a top loader your shifter will be lined up with the back of the front seats, no room for a divorced transfer case, damn thing is already 5LB of crap in a 1LB bag.
Besides today's automatics are dependable enough and allow MUCH greater control over torque compared to a standard especially off road.

Just my two cents...
