I finally got my cheap, train horns mounted.View attachment 842281
Couldn’t find a enough room under the hood to mount them without some real elaborate bracketry, until I realized just mount them to the hood. View attachment 842282

I tee’d into the existing horns, they all compliment each other nicely, and the new horns aren’t quite poop your pants loud with the shared air flow.
If you find you dont have enough (push air wise ) the owner operators road trucks put train horns under the truck they bring a big air line like 3/4 from an aux air tank into the drivers area with a 1/4 turn gate valve so you can adjust the burst /sound by hand and they take that big volume burst for short burst without draing thier tanks some of the guys would add a 100 ft roll of airline tie straped in a circle for added volume if they didnt want to add a metal air tank

Yeah our state dictator has decided to put out another mask mandate with no end date expected and has started mandating vaccinations for agencies and businesses but for some reason has given exemptions to the legislative and judicial branches, evidently it’s only safe for the lower people. Not sure how that works, but I guess it fits the saying that ours is not to question why, but to do and die.
I'll never be forced by the government to have any medical procedure, vaccine or otherwise.

Found a wet spot from all the rain (5-7") in my field and stuck it (929a2) pulling the 1061 trailer. Looked solid.

Low range reverse...had to use it but very gentle. Since the truck was about a foot lower than the empty trailer, I could not get the jack down to unhook. I went for the tractor and held the tongue up while I went forward and eventually got through the spot. Now to clean the mud off the tires....and recover the trailer when the field dries out.

No CTIS and tires are about 65. The XZL loaded up like a set of 177 (pun intended). At least with the trailer unhooked, I came out forward under my own power, once going. This was intended to be a joy ride through the field for my wife and her women friends. They probably took some to remind me of it later.

Raised my bed up to give the 16.00s a little more clearance. Gonna give the wood a couple weeks to dry before I paint it.

Then I wanted to drive it and it wouldn’t start. Narrowed it down to the pcb and took it apart to find this mess. The solenoids have a 2018 date on them so this happened in 3 years. Replaced both solenoids and cleaned everything up.

That's a lot of corrosion for a sealed box. When you put it back together, did you leave the solenoids exposed, or reseal the box?

I did put the box back together with clear silicone but drilled breather holes

You should drill a hole in the bottom for anything to get out

I drilled 2 holes in the bottom, coated the solenoid connections with liquid tape, coated the solder joints with dielectric grease, then gave it all a coat of fluid film. Hopefully they will last this time.

Side note, o reillys and advance could get the cole hersee solenoids over night for about $30 each. Called Napa and they had their brand of it in stock. Drove out there to get it and they wanted $112…I waited.

It does look like another "old but dependable" parts place is slowly being taken over by the bean counters. NAPA at one point in time was the place to go for anything special. Not way out of the ordinary, but lately they are as bad as all the others and they seem to think everything "special" is worth twice as much now days.

Somebody is missing a key point: That internet thing - you know, the thing that al Gore invented - works for people at home just like it does in a NAPA store.

First time I saw PCB in these forums I was really wondering what it had to do with these trucks and those metal plates that get stuck to transformers. From way back when... Metal Plates with sticky on the back, Thousands of yellow warning stickers too. PolyChlorinated Biphenyls C₁₂H₁₀₋ₓClₓ

Then almost overnight, the DOES NOT CONTAIN PCB stickers came.

Odd how three little letters can mean something so different.

Ahhhh I almost blew my engine by accident but the NHC250 seems tough. First I tightened the thread on the coolant reservoir cap, which is what probably saved me from blowing the head gasket.

Since I used to make special race fuel mixtures with my bike when I raced a little bit back in the days, I proceeded to see what worked or did not in the NHC. It seemed to run smoother on oil and start better with marvel and tranny fluid. So, I thought, what about some aircraft 5W level grade turbine oil?

Big Mistake.

This stuff is synthetic and had a purplish color, and it does NOT combust. It is more like hydraulic fluid. Result is that I did not notice that I my engine was almost hydrolocking. I am going over a bridge uphill and man was the truck going, she was like accelerating whereas before she would just slow down to 35 mph struggling. I think that the higher compression resulting gave it a few horsepowers.

Then I stop at a kerosene station to fill her up and it is when I started sweating balls. I cranked her back up and she went half a crank and stoped cranking, completely locked in. Once I let go of the start switch she all of a sudden cranked over and started with just one that one crank. I assume some of the cylinder blow by space might have saved it from complete lock in. The exhaust gave out this strange and possibly toxic wettish mist too. Yikes.

Since I added kerosene mixed with some Howes lubricant at the station, I did not have a repeat of that half crank once I got back home. I had coolant leaking out my water pump though but nothing indicating the gasket was blown since then. I gave been checking the oil for 2 weeks and no water nor overfill signs there and she is back to her old ways since then. The leak at the fuel pump shaft stopped too. I might change it, though.

In any case, I found a way to boost the engine compression accidentally, albeit at the risk of blowing my engine. I think I put 3 quarts of that turbine oil for about 10-15 gals of diesel. I changed the fuel filter since then.

In the last two weeks I switched out my drivers seat with an air ride seat, installed a 24 volt inverter so I will have 120 VAC while running down the road and repaired some minor stuff in preparation for the upcoming MVPA convoy.
Well, I’m back. 3,888 miles, 31 days, 400 gal. Fuel (9.72 mpg average). Not bad for a 41,000 pound truck! We rotated the front tires to the forward left tandem. They where checking a bit so I was told I should rotate them periodically. I had absolutely no trouble with the truck! I don’t care what anyone says about the NHC 250 Commins, this package performs for me. The air ride seat was a blessing! Thank you Steve K. for donating it to me. It literally saved my ass! 😃 Thanks to Antenna Climber, I was able to upgrade my GMRS radio antenna. I could hear the entire column even when we were spread out over two miles long.
I lived in the truck for entire convoy. Had a nice hot shower every night, cooked a few meals, brewed a pot of coffee every morning and had plenty of cold water and fresh food thanks to the refrigerator. I stayed in more camp grounds this time than I did in 2019, but even the nights we stayed in parking lots were comfortable. The most expensive part of the trip for me was fuel, but worth every dime. They are planning a 16 day convoy for next year touring the national parks in the northwest states. It’s a long run for me but I’m giving it serious consideration… It’s nice to be home!
