M1078 Transmission Problem

Satchaser, did you ever get this sorted?
The truck is at a shop now. The mechanic, who seems knowledgeable, says that he has traced the problem to a Solenoid ($150). The part was on order last week and I am hoping to get it on the road again soon.

I will report back with actual information once it comes out of the shop. Thanks for checking in.

After a very long while, and changing out all of the Solenoids, the mechanic reports that the front pump is not producing and needs to be replaced. A couple of questions to the community:
1) Does anyone know a good source for these parts (Front Pump Assembly -Complete + Stetter(??) )?
2) Does anyone know if these parts can be replaced without removing the entire transmission?
3) Does anyone know if, to remove the transmission, you need to remove the entire bed first?
4) Does anyone know a source for a new or rebuilt transmission?

Thank you for the help.

Be careful, some mechanics (if not most) debug problems by throwing parts at them until things work again. When a mechanic replaces more than one part to solve a problem I start watching very closely….. but then again, I don’t use mechanics anymore.

Thanks, I see appendix B now. I will print and take over to the mechanic to observe. He just quoted me ~$12k for a rebuilt transmission and $8k installation. I do not think he is dishonest, I think he just may not have the specific experience.

I do not see putting $20k into this repair. Maybe I will convert it to electric, which will probably only cost me $80k!

These prices should tell you he wants the truck gone. Swapping the transmission is a 2 day job, say 16 hours at what $150 an hour shop rate? $2400 labor.
